In perhaps the best use of the White House’s official “We the People” petition system (just like the government’s e-petition thing), a group of faceless signatures want America to secure funding and resources in order to begin construction on a Death Star by 2016. Yes, a Death Star.
The real question is, what in the hell took so long? Why were we bothering with killing SOPA when we could have spent our time trying to get a FREAKING DEATH STAR for America?! The petition says:
Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.
By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.
Disappointingly, the petition only has over a thousand signatures at the moment. It’ll need a lot more than that to ever reach Obama’s desk. And a lot more than that to ever get the project rolling — maybe we should start the same thing on this side of the Atlantic. Who’s with me? [White House]

But you’re not looking at the bigger picture – firstly as long as the USD is the reserve currency, they can pretty much do what they want with their budget. Secondly, think about the job creation and huge boost to the US economy, so it would be a win-win.
Yes, but US contractors would probably cut corners on the construction by, for instance, leaving a thermal exhaust port uncovered.
That would be a bonus because then they could reinvest and retool to build a second version.
Yes and I’d bet they’d leave numerous corridors and walkways without adequate fencing to prevent falling. I tell you, it’d be a Health and Safety nightmare…..
At least the elevator muzak is already available http://goo.gl/BWTh3
you worry too much. With all the defense towers and onboard interceptors the station will have there is no way anyone would be able to get close enough for it to pose a risk.
If you say so Grand Moff Hoggleboggle.
