Hackulous, the iOS piracy community behind the jailbreak app Installous, has suddenly shut down. Along with the community site, the Hackulous repository for the jailbreak store Cydia has also disappeared, rendering all of the community’s piracy tools dead.
A statement announcing the closure on the community’s website weirdly attributed the shutdown to stagnation, saying:
We are very sad to announce that Hackulous is shutting down. After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town. It has become difficult to keep them online and well-moderated, despite the devotion of our staff. We’re incredibly thankful for the support we’ve had over the years and hope that new, greater communities blossom out of our absence.
According to TorrentFreak, the explanation is a bit dubious; the site still had plenty of users and the forums were already a “ghost town” by their very nature. It could be the case that the lack of a jailbreak for iOS 6, and potentially all versions of iOS to follow, was leaving Hackulous with little to do. Whatever the case, Hackulous is no more, and that particular piracy corner of the jailbreak world is probably gone for good. [TorrentFreak via The Verge]

So, since I still have Installous 5, I can remain to use it?
So long and thanks for all the fish
Good.
Normally I’m all for piracy (you get cool hats after all) but in this case; apps are what? 99p and most of the ones I buy are just some guys side project, they deserve my precious pennies.
Exactly, if you can afford a £500+ phone, you can afford a 99p app.
Not all apps are available in every country though.
Ahhh that explains all the “API Error” messages I keep getting ..
Good riddance, I miss jailbreak on my phone for the many tweaks to make iOS amazing, but nonsense like this just held the community back. Buy your apps, support the developers.
