One of the only things that rescues Back to the Future II is the awesome hoverboard scene. We all know this. Mattel’s even made a model version. You know what’s more badass than a hoverboard though? A hoverboard with a jet turbine stuck on the bottom. Marty McFly, eat your heart out.
Ok, so the hoverboard doesn’t exist — yet. But c’mon, what’s so hard? Bolt some snowboarding boots and a jet turbine together, like this concept, and you’ve got the Flyboard — “a watersports apparatus which allows propulsion underwater and in the air”. According to the designer, one Jurmol Yao, “after about 20 minutes you can already move underwater like a dolphin and challenge the gravity like superman”. Hear that? Challenge gravity like superman. Apparently, the board will have some kind of handheld controller, complete with kill switch you can yank when it all goes pear-shaped.
I’ll admit, I’m not going to be the one to test it — but I’ll gladly stand nearby with a camera (as long as I can be inside some kind of floating bunker). What do you reckon though — jet powered hoverboard, madness or genius? [Jurmol via Ubergizmo]

This is just another of those big hose powered “jetpacks” we’ve seen so many times before. http://www.zapata-racing.com/

Chris did you work for apple before Gizmodo?
“Grab any old map of the world, add some cool not quite street view feature, like google, and you’ve got apple maps.”
Yeah, but they fired him and used him as a scapegoat when the iFlyboard didn’t live up to the hype.

How. Very. Dare. You!!
Yea, that confused me a bit too.
I wouldn’t be alone is saying Back To The Future 2 is one of the greatest films of our childhoods.
I dunno. I thought Back to the Future was amazing, but part 2 was just a bit….lame.
By Robert Zemeckis own admission, if they hadn’t been filming BTTF Pt III while trying to edit together Pt II then it would have been a better film by far.
He was filming Pt III in Monument Valley during the day, then flying back to LA to look at the cuts for Pt II and couldn’t devote the time to it that he wanted.
It would be interesting to take all the footage for Pt II and let him re-edit it properly.
Saying that though, BTTF Pt II is one of only two examples I can think of where crossing earlier timelines and footage doesn’t fall flat on its arse; the other being Star Trek DS9: Trials and Tribble-ations.
I don’t know, kids these days, you remind me of my 28yr old Cousin who had the audacity to tell me that Tron was a rubbish film. Are you a Tron Hater too Chris? Chris? Are you?? Chris?
Damn right. I’m sure noone would argue that BTTF2 is quite as perfect as #1, but it’s still a fantastic movie in its own right.
You won’t challenge a garden-variety gravity, you will actually challenge “THE gravity”
Chris, this is not a hoverboard of any sort. And the comment about BTTF2. Oh lord. What age are you?
And it’s already happened. Try researching the product you’re about to report on before spitting out meaningless drivel.
Sorry for harsh comment, but please make an effort Gizmodo. Come on.
