Amazon just might be building a smartphone, according to the Taiwan Economic News. It claims Amazon has ordered 5 million devices and will launch the phone in the middle of 2013.
This is one of those rumours that pops up every so often. It’s not very reliably sourced, so we can’t say that there’s a phone coming with much certainty. Reports about an Amazon phone have been kicking around for a long time. Amazon has done well with the Kindle Fire. But a phone needs to be much more than its tablet is. Considering the millions saved from not paying Tax, R&D are going to get a lovely juicy budget to work with.
To be fair, I’d happily buy a phone from amazon. Would compliment the kindle / tablet line perfectly.
With the nexus 4 being so cheap, I wonder if it’s worth it if we’re heading in that direction.
