After that very Dark Knight Rises-like poster the other day, we’ve finally got some video of Star Trek Into Darkness to clap our eyes on, and it’s a corker. If you thought blowing up Vulcan was big, wait till you see this.
I know the Enterprise got destroyed in a couple of the original Star Trek films, but hell, not until much, much later on. Still, it’s certainly pulse racing, something we don’t normally associate with previous Next Generation and Original Series movies. Oh yeah, and Benedict Cumberbatch looks like he’s going to be one hell of a bad guy. Wrath of Khan-much? [YouTube via io9]
Bonus: Here’s the Japanese trailer with some extra footage at the end.

Looks Like That Really Is the Enterprise Crashing in Star Trek Into Darkness
This Is the Badass Dark Enterprise Kirk Battles In Star Trek Into Darkness
This Is What the Bridge of JJ Abrams' Redesigned Star Trek Enterprise Really Looks Like
I hate abrams.
He hates you.
Well, that work out for them best then really.
Yep, I truly can’t wait for this. If it’s anything like the first one, it’ll be utterly awesome. It’s just a shame it’s got an awful name.
What? What’s wrong with “Star Trek?” Oh there’s a subtitle… didn’t even … care…
Cheers Gibbsy!
Pleasure
What do you reckon? Wrath of Khan-much?
plus a bit that looked a little like Spock and Kirk doing the goodbye old friend after Spock saves the Enterprise by exposing himself to radiation to get the engines restarted….
So, this is how we get things done around here is it? Harangue a writer in an unrelated story and they’ll write what we want.
No need. Every dark reboot ever made or that will ever be made is a total plaguerisation of Nolans’ Batman. /sarcasm (just in case)
Sorry, what? are you replying to the wrong person?
plagiarisation*
Touché :p
Possibly, but it only works if I’m already in the process of writing something
all feedback is, err, ‘taken on board’
Can’t wait for this. Really enjoyed the 2009 reboot. Only because my expectations were set rather low, due to me stereotyping reboots. But, i for one think the cast choice was superb. All except Scotty. Too slapstick.
I see what youre getting at with Khan, but… I think ill reserve that call till i see more of Cumbersnatch’s role.
Yes of course! Since being an avid ST follower of all the series and their respective films, I believe that Cumberbatch is NOT playing Khan but it will go into the Khan-esqe revenge category of Wrath.
Ben Cumberbatch’ character is an character from ST:TOS, I believe; unless they have considerably altered the story of Khan because of the fact that the events and Nero’s actions in the last film has obviously forever changed the timeline we all know very well from the Shatner era. It gives it much more of a chance to shake things up and go completely wherever they want. So who can completely rule out him being Khan? Not me. I shall say no more on Ben’s character.
The Title doesn’t bother me, I look forward to the material and the substance/style combination Abrams has amalgamated which is what made the first film excellent.
The timeline adjustment of the first film would not have effected any event prior to the Romulan ship arriving in (from it’s POV) the past. Thus the Eugenics wars should still have happened in the 90′s
Very true. This could get really interesting.
I’m not denying the Eugenics Wars, I’m simply inferring that circumstances surround Khan and his life from the Original series has now changed because perhaps with Kirk now being a lot different from Shatner’s his destiny has changed. His thinking and logic are different. He would take on different missions, perhaps encounter Khan in some other way and perhaps now meets Khan again under, from what we have seen in the trailer, different circumstances.
But this is all moot, I still think he’s not playing Khan. But I believe I have a fairly good idea on who Cumberbatch IS playing.
He is wearing a top with a Starfleet logo on it at the end, so highly doubt its Khan.
A lot of people far geekier than I have said it may be a take on the http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Gary_Mitchell story. Mainly due to the fact he has some kind of super powers and the blonde woman looks similar to http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Dehner who was his super powered partner in crime.
Looks good but personally I’m not thinking of it as Star Trek because it’s different from the ‘proper’ Star Trek movies and series…..
Still looks good and enjoyed 2009 but….
Absolutely agree: nothing like the proper Star Trek. It’s not rubbish at all, so no self-respecting Trekkie can watch it.
Dont think the enterprise gets blown up. at least not iin the trailer.
Sure theres a few in ship explosions on there, but that could just be mid battle stuff and a starship crashes into the sea, but its not clear if its enterprise or not and you dont see it explode. Also, at about 33 secs in you see a starship rise from out of the sea, so perhaps its just sunk and they salvage it at some point.
Look at the detail on the Nacelles. That *is* the new Enterprise in 2009.
The Other ship near the end of the trailer has different nacelles.
Those look completely different to the new Enterprise.
OOOHHHH YEAAAAAHHHHHH. I cannot wait to try and convince girls to watch this with me.
It’s got Chris Pine in it. I’m reliably informed he’s a heart throb, him and Quinto.
And Alice Eve, say no more.
That doesn’t have to be the Enterprise crashing.
On second look, it seems to be to look a lot more like the Enterprise from ST:Enterprise than TOS.
Exactly, a few shots inside the Enterprise showing the cast thrown about and then seeing another edited clip of something with a similar shape as the Enterprise crashing does not automatically make me think that it is the Enterprise. The Federation must have more than one ship.
It could just be a new constitution class starship that is captained by Ben Cumberbatch’s character.
There is also a fairly distinct shot of it rising back *out* of the water. Crashing doesn’t necessarily mean destroyed I guess?
That’s a constitution-class starship that crashed into the water, but you can’t see “Enterprise” on it. It could be another ship. Maybe. Looking forward to finding out though!
Also look at the detail on the Nacelles. Those look completely different to the new Enterprise in 2009.
Yep there are far too many known unknowns!
It would appear that whomever Cumberpatch is playing it is a character that has some sort of history, either they create a new back-story or they borrow a previous character.
With the latter choice it either has to be someone from TOS (like Khan) or someone from latter series with a grudge against kirk with the ability to time-travel or had an encounter with a bend in the time-space continuum (Such as Dr Soran). Having said that, using time travel again would seem like a bit of a cheat.
I wasn’t a big fan of the first film but this look tremendous.
Nice to see Nakatomi plaza still around, and in San Francisco now. Buildings that walk. I love the future.
*Desperately tries to find the Simpsons clip where Professor Frink invents the house on legs*
That’s not Enterprise crashing into the sea, the nacelles are the wrong shape.
Probably the “bad guys” stolen ship, possibly newer than Enterprise.
Hubert Cumberdale!…err, I mean Benedict Cucumber-bitch…err, I mean Benedict Cumberbatch!
Loved Sherlock, probably the best series I’ve seen in recent years. I’ll hopefully love this too!
Didn’t take Disney long. There’s none of the characters from the first six movies though, not even gold gay one or the little dustbin one that talks in whistles.
More like “Star Trek: Into Lensflare”
The lensflare is how you know it’s set in the future. It can be confusing with all of those modern day buildings filling the screen, so add lensflare for instant futurism. Try it now, take a picture of something and then shop in some lensflare. Instant future!
Erm…
“I know the Enterprise got destroyed in a couple of the original Star Trek films, but hell, not until much, much later on. Still, it’s certainly ‘pulse racing, something we don’t normally associate with previous Next Generation and Original Series movies.
Original Series Films
Star Trek 2 – Enterprise nearly a right off with best battle sequence in all the films, gets decommissioned.
Star Trek 3 – Enterprise stolen by Kirk and destroyed by self destruct after battle.
Next Generation
First Movie sees the Enterprise destroyed and saucer crashed into planet.
Alice Eve looks like she is playing Dr Elizabeth Dehner. Which means one thing for Cumberbatch’ character.
