Our daily does of satellite imagery through services like Google Maps have made looking down at Earth seem rather hum-drum at times. But there are still magical and majestic sites to be hold, as seen in this selection from 2012.
DigitalGlobe recently announced their Best of 2012 picks out of their vast archive of images. Phenomena both natural and man-made make appearances, and are equally striking. We happen to love the one of Mt. Fuji gushing steam.

A winner must be chosen, and if you venture over to DigitalGlobe’s Facebook page, you can vote on your favourite with a Like! [DigitalGlobe via TwistedSifter]

I don’t live far from Northumberlandria (the mine sculpture). It looks better from the ground that the air. The views from the top of it are impressive in some directions and rather bleak in others due to it being quite close to a large industrial estate. Would I recommend visiting it? No, there’s much better places to go not far from there.
Name me some please mate, moved in Tyne and Wear 2 years ago and still haven’t been to Alnwich Castle!
If you go to Alnwick Castle, check out Alnwick Gardens while you’re there. If you’re luckily the poison garden tour will be available. For more history theres Bamburgh Castle which I prefer to Alnwick. Near to Bamburgh is Seahouses where you can go for a boat trip around Holy Island and look at the puffins and seals. Fresh fish is available from the harbour, and the local fish and chip shops are lovely if a bit expensive. If you head towards the hills theirs the cheviot which is a nice walk during the summer, as well as Northumberland National Park which has some outstanding views. Rothbury is also a good place to go, quite popular stop for bikers during the summer and the local cafes are reasonably priced. As an added bonus you’ll get to see where Raoul Moat topped himself. Overall the north is a lovely place.
Way aye man, cheers! Looks like my summer holidays all planned out like, going Lake District later next year too
