A company called TrackingPoint has developed what it calls an Intelligent Digital Tracking Scope that lets a shooter virtually mark a location so that the rifle will only fire when the intended target is in its crosshairs. Even if the trigger is squeezed, the rifle will only fire when it’s on target.
Some might argue that it takes the sport and skill out of hunting, but at the same time it does appear to make the sport safer preventing misses or misfires. The only catch is that because the digital scope is so tightly integrated into the rest of the rifle, it doesn’t seem like it can be retrofitted to your existing arsenal. But next year the company is planning to introduce three rifles with the scope system already built-in, so you’ll be better equipped to frag yourself a deer come hunting season. Great if your target is handily standing still. We don’t have to be worried till they integrate it with a cheap digital camera and it gets face tracking.
No thanks… When I squeeze the trigger I expect the rifle to go bang. If it doesn’t go bang then I go straight to misfire drill as it usually indicates a fault with the ammo or the rifle. I’ll be pretty annoyed if the lack of bang was caused by the scope deciding I wasn’t on target.
Exactly. I honestly really don’t see the point of this product.
With one exception: range safety. If shooters can only fire whilst aiming at their respective targets, then I guess that makes sense.
Call me silly, but if you can aim to mark it, you could have shot it then and there.
