Normally you might consider a smokestack to be something of an eye-sore, but this “Sky Stack” Is very much the opposite. With parts of it seemingly missing, the whole thing turns into an awesome fixture.
Sky Stack, designed by Hamburg-based asdfg architekten, sports five reflective rings around its neck that under the right viewing circumstances, make those sections appear invisible. Granted, it’s not particularly convincing up close, but when the distance is right, its enough to make you double-take, and is surely quite convincing from a corner-of-the-eye glance. It’s certainly the coolest smokestack you’ll only sort-of see. I wish we could get one of those around here. [Designboom via The Daily What]

Am I the only one who thinks this looks ugly?
Nope. I still think it’s an eyesore
With you on that.
It would be better if they replaced the whole thing with it, leaving only the tip visible for aircraft etc. Then no one would have to see it!
I’m going to buy some reflective tape and try this effect out on parts of my body.
It’ll freak the wife right out!
Why would you not just cover the entire thing in that material? Surely then it would be “invisible”…
Would give stray birds (or helicopters) a nasty shock.
It does beg the question, why don’t they cover all of the top of the stack in the stuff to make it “invisible”? Better not to see these things at all, surely?
Aside, of course, the very top, which would need to be seen so helicopters etc. don’t crash into them!
