We’re about to put a big year behind us, but there’s also a big one ahead. We can expect the launch of next-gen game consoles, an inevitable onslaught of phablets, the death/rebirth of RIM, maybe a retina iPad Mini and who knows what else. What prospects have your hopes up? What is it you really want to see (or desperately want to not see) in the coming year?

These?

Some official announcements about the next generation of consoles would be nice.
A half decent battery life?
i would like a phone with a wireless removable screenthat works within 4-6fy of the main part of the phone, so you have a wafer thin touchscreen thats see trough, but can fill or overlay as required
also a wheelchair that hovers
bananaphone.
You bastard!
I’m trying to do some work.
I’d like to see the Surface Pro be decent. I doubt I’ll buy one, but it’d be nice to want to.
And if I’m dreaming; a Blu-ray equipped Mac notebook and a decent replacement for DAB.
ringringringringringringring…
BANANAPHONE!
WEAPONIZED SUBWOOFERS
what would you be trying to atchive with weaponized subwoofers?! apart from killer bass… obviously!
ubuntu for android! god damn they’ve been teasing us with that since February
I’m just hoping apple to something awesome this year.. something that makes us all go batshit..
padfone 2 gets released in the u.k hoping the greddy carriers don’t stop it being subsidised
Here are the things I want next year, in order of plausibility:
128 GB micro-SD cards, and a 12-inch Android tablet with an SD card slot to put it in (everything should have an SD card slot). Windows laptops with ‘retina’ displays (1366×768 has been standard for too long now). An Android tablet with two SD card slots (why does it have to be just one?) A truly decent Evernote competitor, (because Evernote annoys me) or for that matter, a truly decent Adobe Illustrator or Microsoft Office competitor.
256 GB micro-SD cards. iTunes sync for Android. Mainstream word processors embracing Open Document format. Ability to run Android on a Windows 8 tablet, or Windows 8 on an Android tablet, Windows 8 or Android on an iPad, iOS on a non-Apple tablet. Ability to change the default browser or do any of the other things you can’t do on iOS.
512 GB micro-SD cards. DRM-free ebooks becoming mainstream. An iPhone with a removable battery and a micro-USB 3.0 port. 1 terabyte micro-SD cards that are almost as fast as an SSD. A phone/tablet/laptop/desktop with specs so good that it never becomes obsolete, never runs out of memory, never crashes, is waterproof, and repairs and upgrades itself, and they are all one device.
And since we’re well into the realm of fantasy…
Apple and Samsung setting aside their differences to build the next generation of televisions together.
