With Christmas a few days past, you’ve probably gotten a good chance to get familiar with whatever gadgets you may have gotten as gifts. Maybe you got a new iPad Mini, or a Nexus 7. Maybe it was a new phone, or even a new laptop. But as awesome as any of them may be, do they hold a candle to what you’ve gotten in the past? What was the best gadget you’ve ever received as a Christmas gift. Dig deep. What are the classics that stick out in your mind?

Ipod nano, 3rd Gen. Got it christmas 2007 and only ever had one issue with it since. Even that was fixed by a ‘genius’ in under an hour for free and it’s still going strong today
iPod Touch 2nd Gen. I also got a amazing portable speaker dock that docked into a other speaker to make a mega speaker dock.
That was the last good Christmas I had, its gone downhill since then. Looking forward to hopefully getting a house with my best friend in a new city and doing Christmas properly this year. My family seem to think Christmas is just for kids, I couldn’t agree less. (Plus the fact i’m only 20) yet they have no problem with me spending a small fortune on gifts.
Oh well, bring on Christmas 2013 (2.0)
Luckily my brother and sister have shelled out a shitload on presents for everybody, problem is I’m still skint. Since when is 19 the age you suddenly don’t want money? ;-;
iPhone 3GS. I had the previous two iPhones before but iPhone 3GS was the first (working) truly properly good iPhone, and of course I bought every iPhone after too, but I wonder what they’re gonna add to the iPhone 5 to make it iPhone 5s ?? Perhaps a silver (non-painted) bezel for the black version so it doesn’t scratch/peel/wear off so quickly?… I’ve already got the White version of the iPhone 5 because the peeling black paint on the bezel of the black iPhone 5 made it look two years old after only two weeks…
I know you fandroids out there giggling now, thinking he’s definitely a #crapplefan but you’re just in denial, the iPhone (5) is the best phone on this planet! I bet you’re all looking forward to iPhone 10 coming out in 20 years time which will most likely have a fully transparent display/body and be less than 5mm thin…
And how is it the best phone in the planet?
Ill tell you what, download ANY zip/MP3/AVI file and send it to me in email or over Bluetooth… Without jailbreak…
If you think that its the best phone on the market than feel free to think so, loads of people will disagree with you.
STFU and stop trolling
How Cheap! YOU STFU D**K! You’re obviously not paying for your MP3/AVI files, that’s why they come zipped, so, who’s the internet TROLL!?!
Oh, and a Bentley Continental GT, beluga black with saffron interior. The iPhone is still the best present tho.
For me, probably a Casio TV-200 palm-sized television in the mid-Eighties. It was like something out of a sf movie. My brother was living in Hong Kong at the time, and sent me one. I still have it. If you want to see what it looks like, go here: http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/casio_pocket_television_tv_200.html
PS1 by far, nothing matched the sheer joy and shock of opening that present. The only other games console we’d gotten was a GameBoy Pocket so it was a pretty big deal…
iPhone. I think I got my first one in 2008. Before that I’d only use my phone for brief phone calls and texting. Previously I had a Nokia N95 black so it felt like a massive upgrade! I attempted to do a few weeks with another phone during 2011 but it failed badly and returned back to my iPhone.
My first electric guitar, a Squier Stratocaster, in Christmas 2000. The start of a slippery slope towards a flat full of instruments
I got socks from Granny!
Oh Ever? Hmm.. still socks!
Super Nintendo with Street Fighter 2 Christmas 1993.
It took me 48 rounds to kill M.Bison.
Done.
Going back a just a few years, a Tomy Armatron.
Probably the YZFR I got this year. Having said that, As I got my CBT only a few days ago it can easily turn into he worse present ever.
BBC Master Microcomputer, probably Xmas 1986.
I spent a lifetime playing Elite on it.
Archos Cobalt Tablet which my friend got for me this Christmas for £49 with a 64gb Sandisk ultra micro SDXC. I already have a Nexus 7 and a Galaxy tab 2 but the Archos tablet is something I fully enjoy without thinking of the price. It’s something that impresses me because i have very low expectations of it.
BBC Micro – Xmas 1984. Introduced me to a whole world of programming, and exploring what those new-fangled computers could do. Everything else since then has been marvellous, but secondary to that wonder.
Oh yes, and Elite on it – still the best game (for it’s own time) ever!
Nexus 4
Nexus 7. My partner surprised me… but after binging on it for like 5 hours on Christmas day…she threatened to take it away.
Probably my Kindle, didn’t think I would use it much at first, but soon enough I was using it loads! Great for the commute to and from work.
It would have to be my laptop which I got a couple of years ago, I couldn’t imagine life without it.
Definately the Playstaion 2, I still think it’s the best console ever made
Tassimo machine.. This Christmas
Jetboil and a spork 2 years ago. It’s not the most compact of stoves but my god it’s quick.
The jetboils are awesome, put some masking tape around the lip of the cup though to help stop the locking lugs breaking off!
Before this year’s Nexus 7 it would have to be my ZX Spectrum+ – I learned programming on it, and played many great games.
The money towards buying a second hand ZX81, my first foray into computing.
easily the Purple Gameboy Color i got when i was 8. it has been dropped down multiple flights of stairs, been submerged in a swimming pool and has even survived a drop from a 2nd floor window and yet it is still going strong. easily the best gadget & console i still own!
Government (uni dyslexia department) gave me a pimped up Macbook Pro Retina 15″ for free… came the week before but used it every day all day since and boy is it fast
I remember opening up a present 1999 or 2000 lol Guess I dont remember but when I got my DREAMCAST I was soooo happy
Loved that console. Phantasy Star Online started off my online gaming career.
Gameboy Advance with the full set of Pokemon games. Hell yeah.

My 13-inch Macbook Pro from 2009. (I know, but my parents were going to get me a laptop anyway). It’s been my main computer ever since, and it will probably serve me well for another three years.

Atari 2600 console – the wow factor when you are eleven years old and are allowed to monopolize the only tv set to play games.
It’s between either my iPod touch 3 or what I got this year a YRG-1000 synth guitar.
