In a somewhat surprising move, considering the administrators are keeping HMV’s stores running, Deloitte have taken the HMV site offline. It looks like sales are limited to stores, but are they simply prepping for a fire-sale site?
Those hoping to be able to grab a bargain online, when and if HMV has some sort of fire sale, look like they’ll be flat out of luck, but it’s possible the HMV website might just be getting tweaked ahead of sales.
At any rate, it seems odd to take down a viable selling platform, considering Deloitte’s attempting to actually keep HMV running ahead of sale of the business. Let’s hope it knows what its doing, for the sake of the 4,350 people with jobs on the line. [HMV]

Did they take off and nuke the entire site from orbit? I am reliably informed it’s the only way to be sure.
I’ve heard this as well. Seems like sound advice to me, though I’ve also heard that bringing back samples for study may or may not be wise…
Maybe it means that the site wasn’t a viable means of making a sale? After all, even thier sale prices are likely not going to compete with Amazon
Put it this way, of all HMV’s overhead costs, the website would have been absolutely piddling.
but then, all their warehouse stock will be more easily sold to a company like Thats Entertainment, I would like to think the liquidators at Deloite know which is more viable!
Normally, something like an established online brand like that, would be sold complete so that someone could just jump in and maintain the online presence, but who knows. Like you said, you’d hope Deloitte knows what its doing.
It does make it look like they don’t hold out much hope of saving the brand at all. Who knows who’d be willing to take on the brand when its had these problems? Hopefully they can sell off Fopp though, that seemed like one part of the business that was run well
Perhaps it’s something to do with the distance selling regulations, does this put some requirement on HMV (for instance in regard to replacements) that Deloitte cannot in good faith expect them to fulfil.
Aye, that could be true. Returns and things like that.
why have you all got new, user pics. It’s very disconcerting.
Maybe they are going to sell as much as they can from the stores (possible massive discount sale?), then send everything from the Warehouse back to suppliers
just one possibility
Is it just the stores which are in trouble or HMV in general? It looks like the On demand film flex hmv site is still up
Pretty sure the on demand thing was run by another company lisencing the HMV name
and for the sake of the dog too!
This would be due to the fact that they are probably currently unable to process any kind of card transaction online with their bank. This happened with GAME too.
Goodbye HMV, I hope your shareholders lose everything. I also hope the staff get a quick and decent settlement, even if the Gov pays it out ( as they do a lot ).
This collapse yet again shows how the management of a company can quickly destroy its future by failing to invest and move with the times. The CEOs moved between different companies, basically taking each one down or putting it in a position of weakness.
Shareholders should have held the management to account and these ‘Business Leaders’ should not get such pampering by media and government. They are no better than other workers and are in many cases worse.
The current and past CEO’s should now be personally billed with every ‘expense’ they put through the company as they tend to treat them as personal bank accounts and not as businesses.
HMV’s CEO, Trevor Moore, was the CEO of Jessops. His CV doesn’t look very good at the moment…
Has he worked for Blockbuster, Woolworth, Virgin Megastore and Game as well?
Don’t know but he has worked for Coffee Republic and Thresher (both defunct) as well as Esporta (both local Esporta gyms were replaced by Virgine Active).
And by Virgine I mean Virgin, obviously.
Does he traditionally come to work in a long black hooded gown carrying a scythe?
