The launch of Mega is putting a big emphasis on encryption, but it’s not like that kind of security is anything new. It’s just a pain sometimes. Do you ever go out of your way to encrypt your files? Do you think it’s worth the effort? The risk of losing that password and being screwed? Do you have any urge to start?

Of course.
I use the uncrackable Rot13 method
Aye. Just upgraded to Win8 Pro, mainly for BitLocker.
I’d hate to break it to you, but BitLocker is bad compared to other free examples such as TrueCrypt. As that comes with AES 256bit as standard compared to BL’s 128bit. Oh you can then also set other algorithms if you really want.
Either way I have TrueCrypt running, 256 AES then with Whirlpool hashing.
On the other hand, you can use a bitlocker encrypted thumbdrive in a webcafe where you don’t have admin permission to install TrueCrypt.
in portable mode it does not need installing (TrueCrypt)
But you still need admin permission I think. The FAQ isn’t very clear, but other sources seem to indicate that you can’t just walk into a web cafe with a true crypt encrypted usb stick and expect it to work.
I do, largely after the scare with Giz having their email system hacked. Two factor, enforces SSL, VPN for dodgy looking connections, Filevault, encryption on USB drives and LastPass premium with two factor for passwords.
Oh, and a tin foil hat – they’re out to get you you know!
On local systems I don’t, if I use anything online that is encrypted. With encrypting my local stuff I just increase the chance that at some point I won’t be able to access my own data.
Just encrypted keystrokes, i don’t really have any valuable information on my pc so it would be unnecessary to encrypt everything.
Would you mind telling me what sort of software do you use to encrypt keystrokes ?
Keyscrambler, don’t know if there are any better programs out there but i’ve been using it for years and it does the job.
Yup AES 256bit, except my media.
No, I have no data that you couldn’t find out from following me around for a couple of days.
Everything on my work computer is encrypted.
My mobile phones are encrypted – at least that’s what I’m told a login pin does on iOS and Android – and erased if the wrong pin is entered too many times.
Everything related to work on my personal computer is encrypted, including virtual machines.
I use my own cloud storage, which is locked up somewhere in my house, and only through HTTPS.
My wifi is obviously encrypted and I have two running on the router, the second is for guests.
I have been thinking of encrypting my Nexus 4, but what happens if you flash a new rom after running the encryption? Would it erase everything?
you should not be able to access the data normally (i thought most roms wipe user space or at least recommend to any way)
There’s little reason to do a wipe if you just want to do a minor update.
My files were still there when I flashed my old Desire. But don’t take my word for it; you phone runs different software version on different hardware.
Just for some porn.
This.
