Home-modders rejoice! The awesome Nest smart home thermostat is finally making its way to our shores this year. Apparently the hold up is something to do with our home-heating systems using a different voltage, plus the myriad of crazy boiler setups we have here. Oh, and lack of air conditioning too. Let’s just hope it won’t be crazy expensive once it lands in the UK. [Pocket-Lint]

Dammit! This means I actually have to buy a house to use it in now!
I’m in the same boat. There’s no way my landlord will let me start messing with that kind of thing.
If I do end up moving in the not too distant future, then this will be high on my priorities list, not least because the initial expenditure will likely repay itself many times over the life of the property.
Right now though, I’d settle for having a boiler with a slightly higher efficiency than 65%!
Your employer must have access to some saucer technology from its American divisions. Can’t you steal some to make the boiler more efficient?
If only – the only saucers we see are normally due to sleep deprivation!
ooh, interesting.
when we did up the kitchen we didnt replace the boiler in the cupboard so the old thermostat is still there. its older than my wife!
This better be on sale by the time I move mid-2013…
Pity my heating system doesn’t have a central thermostat control, only a timer.
It’s older than me. A lot older.
our old house was like that.
thermostats are crap anyway really. its a pain in the arse to get the right temps around the whole house. but individual room heating systems arent cheap
I’ve got a timer thingy and a turny grey plastic thermostat cleverly positioned right next to a radiator that’s cleverly positioned under a window. I wonder if it’ll work with that…
Ahaha. Genius thermostat placement.
It will probably replace that thermostat, but whether it will actually work in that position…
If i get a job where the customer wants this installed in their house i might accidentally misplace it.
Hurrah! I’ve got the standard British Gas dual channel combined heating/hot water controller along with a remote room thermostat… think it’s a rebranded Drayton LPSi unit.
I am putting my wages on it being more expensive here than in the US.
Would be nice for a company to surprise us for once…..doesn’t happen often does it?
usual pricing is like this:
£cost = $cost + 20%
its bollocks isnt it!
That’s because the cost of the unit needs to include VAT over here…
In the US they add on sales tax, etc at the end of the purchase (As if differs per state)
This doesn’t excuse the blatant profiteering that some firms do embark on over here. BUT, we pay these increased rates. Don’t buy it if you think it’s too expensive, like the Wii U. Right?
I am moving at the end of the month. Get it over here now damnit!
