The internet was freaking out yesterday because holy shit! It looked like Google ran over a donkey with a Street View car in Kweneng, Botswana. But no need to call up the RSPCA, because Google says it absolutely did not commit assicide.
Street View tourists of Africa were up in arms over an image that showed a donkey lying listlessly in the road, presumed dead. But Google explained in a blog post today that ol’ Eeyore was probably just taking a little nap or maybe even a dust bath. For evidence, it included a series of four images (condensed into GIF form above for dramatic effect) to support its claim. So unless a lion ate our four-legged friend, he’s still alive somewhere in the brush of Botswana. The prosecution rests. [Google via TechCrunch]

You can tell they didn’t from the tyre marks…
Or by looking at it on google maps.
What happened was a car coming the other way flicks dust at the donkey and the donkey either rolls around to remove it or cos he loves getting covered in dirt. Then walks off once the Gcar rolled by.
The still images taken out of content do look misleading, but I’m so upset by the countless journalists that post things like this without research.
You must get upset really easily..
Gizmodo is perhaps not the best place for you.
Incidentally wasn’t this cleared up by Gary http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/01/google-denies-senseless-street-view-donkey-slaughter/
Also “The prosecution rests” shouldn’t that be defence, the prosecution was a bunch of dumbfuck bloggers.
The donkey was clearly just trying to purposefully injure itself so it could bring a PI case against Google.
“Have you been hurt in a streetview accident that wasn’t your fault? Then call Lawyers for Donkeys and wee’ll prove the law really is an Ass.”
Then sell you to Tesco to put in a burger.
im just curious – are there like wild donkeys just walking around over there? or do they have owners? I mean i just assumed that donkey would have an owner and not just be wondering wild…i dont know why i want to know this but just curious
Just to confirm, donkeys are wild animals you know, just like horse, so would not be uncommon to find one just walking about.
Or in a burger…
Horse burgers are actually quite lovely, very lean and tender, best meat to use for a steak tartart
i reckon the donkey was a trap set by Bing or Yahoo
or Ass Jeeves… oh i meant Ask Jeeves if that is even around anymore
You could always Google it to find out.
The donkey was just trying to save itself from being made into a tesco value burger.
Please if the car hit the donkey the car would have been written off!!! Giz seems to be thriving on sensational headlines at the moment. Like “friends thrown to great whites” when it was a basking shark…..sigh
