Last month Nike announced that it would be launching its own accelerator to make Nike+ and NikeFuel a little more accurate and a lot less crappy.
Today, Nike announced that its Nike+ API is now open allowing devs access to their “own profile and activity data, including NikeFuel, running pace and distance, running routes, records, streaks and more.” Applications for the accelerator are being accepted through February 3.
The program, which starts in March, near Nike’s HQ in Oregon, will mentor 10 companies over the course of three months with the hopes of inspiring “athletes across a broad range of activity and health interests, including training, coaching, gaming, data visualization and quantified self.” Hopefully a few of those startups are able to push each respective platform forward at the same time. Or, at the very least, make some sense of what NikeFuel is actually doing.
And if you’re in San Francisco, New York, Boston or Portland, you should plan to join Nike at one of many meet-ups starting next week to learn more. [Nike]

Nike Testing Newer, Thinner FuelBand
Battlemodo: Fitbit Ultra Vs. Nike FuelBand
They should have a Nike+ Cock’N'Bollocks strap that monitors your performance during coitus. The top bit wraps around your shaft, and the bottom goes round your ball bag. Like a figure of eight with the digital readout on along the top. It would check your pulse, blood pressure and would know when you”ve climaxed. It’ll then measure the strength of orgasm and flow of ejaculation.
Afterwards, you can upload that information and compare it with your performance over a week or a month. If you’re a stallion, you can print out a chart which you can show ladies during speed dating down your local.
Yes! With the all-important Facebook integration as well, of course.

Comment of the week already.
As someone who’s main mode of transport is cycling, would either the Nike Fuelband or the Fitbit be useful?
No. Get a GPS based app and/or some Bluetooth speed/cadence sensors instead. I’ve got the Wahoo Speed/Cadence + HR.
Shame
I’ve been using Endomondo which seems quite good though I’m a bit unsure about it’s calorie estimates – it claimed I’d burnt 1000 calories over an hour which seemed a bit suspicious.
None of them. I have the FuelBand and I love it but it is only meant to monitor your day-to-day activities, like walking to work, move around the office, cooking, etc. I think the same goes for FitBit but it has the added bonus of working in your sleep as well.
For sports activities you need some thing else; I use Runkeeper.
Cool, thanks for that
I’m currently using Endomondo which has been quite good, but like I said to yarr sometimes the calories posted are a bit suspicious…
Curious to see what comes out of Nike initiative. If you join one of those events for developers please share feedback.
I use Fitbit One for the moment and enjoy it, despite Premium subscription is necessary to export my data
I will share with you more info about new activity trackers like Shine or Withings once they are available.
You can also join http://www.red-dolphin.com community to review new trackers and leave your comments.
In the last couple of months, there were 2 reviews on gizmodo uk that gave the fuelband a 4/5. “Unless you’re a fitness freak, you should buy a Fuelband” and “What it does is great”.
Today there’s a completely different opinion? “NikeFuel a little more accurate and a lot less crappy” and “make some sense of what NikeFuel is actually doing.”
Make up your mind before giving 4/5 on a product that “sucks”…
Yup. I can’t tell if Giz wants us to get the fuelband or not anymore.
I think I will get one, and put it on eBay right after
Hopefully this opens up the ability to sync my Nike+ from the iPod without needing to use iTunes.
