A big part of photography is being at the right place at the right time, and of course having your camera ready to capture a fleeting moment. But what if you were able to just capture every single moment? That’s what 4K video capable DSLRs like the new Canon EOS-1DC promise, and the folks at Untitled Film Works put one to the test to see if motion image photography is officially here yet.
Not surprisingly, the video extolls the virtues of shooting video instead of stills, particularly with Canon hardware since the company was kind enough to loan its toys to the cause. But the technique does pose new challenges. Namely the vast amounts of storage needed to capture continuous 4K video, and the mind-numbing process of sorting through thousands of frames afterwards to find the perfect moment or expression.

i dont know what this article is about because i seen a photo of a redhead and all my blood rushed somewhere else, mmmm redheads
And at first glance she seemed to have hairy legs akimbo.
So now I have a cricked neck.
@bikerlifestyle Agreed:)
this is a great site

i think its work safe no total nudity, although skimpily dressed

Even 4K is a little off what the full frame sensor can give you in pixel terms 5760 x 3840 for the Canon 5D3. Having said that, even now with 1080p you can lift a still which is good for web use.
I’m pretty sure you’d watch it in fast forward to find the right moment then slow it down and final freeze frame. Not to difficult at all.
A button to highlight moments during recordings would almost solve this!
We have seen stills pulled from fashion shoots already and some hybrid shoots. But it is a question of the hat fitting, it fits fashion.
holy crap. Those guys are shooting my wedding in February. Abe is such a tech geek.
He was over here in London in August and at the time said he had one of the only 1DC’s in the AsiaPac region.
This also depends largely on shutter angle, to large an angle and single frames look like shit
The thing you’ve skipped over is that for portrait shots, people will have to video in portrait…EUGH!!!
We MUST fight the portrait video-ers!
Co-incidence, just the other day I was watching a 1080P video demo of a Panasonic GH3 (and later, a Sony NEX of some sort) and froze the video to do something and was very impressed with the still quality. Being able to nudge through ‘frame by frame’ to pick out precisely the correct image is probably going to be the future once next generation 4 & 8K video cameras with much faster processors and image processing engines become mainstream.
Already, mid range cameras can shoot 10 frames a second at up to approx 20 Megapixels (even some phones can do this!), so it won’t be too hard to extend this to video. Of course, compression technology will need to improve (unless uncompressed video is shot) to ensure still frame captures from video equal that of proper stills photography.
