Before we all slap ourselves on the back, and tell ourself’s we are great and the US is stupid, the UK’s violent crime rate is 4 times higher than the US.
So you are more than 4 times more likely to be raped, mugged, beaten or just be a victim of a random attack in the UK.

Except that the definitions for “violent crime” are very different in the US and Britain..
As completely awful being raped, mugged or beaten up must be, I’d rather be alive after the crime was committed. So I’ll take the higher violent crime rate if I have to (although I’d obviously want it reduced as much as humanly possible).
