Right after the launch of Mega yesterday, a whole bunch of us here at Giz decided to check it out so we could share a whole wealth of PERFECTLY LEGAL files, just like everyone else does. That said, there’s been issues getting confirmation emails and blistering upload speeds of 0 b/s for hours on end.
The service just launched, and it’s been hit with overwhelming demand, so it kind of makes sense, but is it working for you? Have you actually been able to login to Mega, upload a file, and actually share it with anyone?

Nope, my confirmation email hasn’t arrived yet- registered about 12 hours ago.
Nope, tried uploading my iPhoto library (30GB) but Mega wouldn’t even upload 1byte.
nope, won’t let www. from my mac connect, however, via the an iOS device, you’ll get a wee msg saying ‘an app is coming soon’. Try it on the mac and nothing, it is live though:
— http://www.mega.co.nz ping statistics —
1 packets transmitted, 1 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 34.706/34.706/34.706/0.000 ms
and : http://eu.static.mega.co.nz is the load balance and that’s working (from what I tested anyway!).
I think the EU has been put on black-list!
To add, I managed to get in and crate and account. However, it wanted to continue to upload data even after it hit the 100% mark. What could they be uploading from my machine? Checked the line and there is a connection over port 80 to mega’s servers, and upstream to it, but of what!? this is starting to look rather dodgy!
If it losses packets then they need to be re sent, if the servers are clogged up then it will loss a lot of packets.
yeah, however, the upload was a small image that was kicking on my desktop to see what the process was, so shouldn’t have taken a few seconds to upload. I think they have an issue if the main datacentre is located in NZ as that’s going to be fun should a boat clip the fiber line!
Every one’s rushing to MEGA and they cant handle them all, give it a week or two and it’ll quieten down.
i signed up twice with my domain emails address and nothing, then i signed in with my virgin media email address and it worked
I received one to my Gmail account but when I tried logging in, it gave me a bad password error (which I know I definitely set up and entered correctly) when I clicked on the confirm link. The second I sent to my Outlook account three times and not a single one has been received into my account.
I think I might leave it for a couple of weeks and then come back to see if they’ve fixed the bugs.
Actually, scratch that. I decided to try logging in with my Gmail account anyway. Lo and behold it worked! Now I just gotta work out what super dodgy stuff I don’t want the government to see!
Why is anyone surprised by this? Kim Schmitz/Dotcom has built his entire career on over-promising and under-delivering.
My area doesn’t have cable broadband yet, err so no, not yet
I just registered and received the conf. email within a few seconds…
Guess it’s working now.
Registered, logged in and uploading (slowly,) but so far so good. See how it improves when the sharing system is put in place soon.
Always check your junk peeps, I had about 9 confirmation emails sat there. Whoops.
Can’t login from work; says my password is wrong (it’s not!) Can you only login from one PC?
Only works if you use a Gmail email address. My Hotmail address doesn’t work.
Loads fine for me, registers fine as well, i tried uploading a small .rar file to see what kind of speeds i’d get and it’s still pending after 24 hours.
no confirmation email after at least 24 hours and site is unreachable. Mr Dotcom’s service providers must be cursing him
