Here’s a dinner party where it would be fun to pull up a seat: a pizza banquet that brought together twelve of the biggest names rattling around Silicon Valley, including Jony Ive, Marissa Mayer and Dick Costolo. I wonder what they talked about?
The guest list included: Marissa Mayer (CEO of Yahoo), Drew Houston (CEO of Dropbox), Dave Morin (CEO of Path), Dick Costolo (CEO of Twitter), Jeremy Stoppelman (CEO of Yelp), Michael Birch (cofounder of Bebo), Mike Cassidy (director of Google X) and Jony Ive (SVP at Apple).
An influential bunch, then. The dinner was hosted by Hosted by Nextdoor CEO Nirav Tolia, and it’s not really clear what its purpose was. It does, however, look awfully polite: everyone has a single slice of pizza on their plate. Someone needs to teach them how to eat. [Business Insider]

Jony Ive Wasn't Always Quite So Smooth
And still Jony Ive can’t crack a smile…
Yep, can’t get his mouth to form right angles at the corners, so he doesn’t bother trying
The pizza was probably $50 a slice…..
“Twelve Giants of the Tech World Share a Pizza” – Giants? Outside of Jony how many of these people’s names are known to the general public or even your average techy?
Doesn’t mean they’re not a big deal in the industry though.
Oh, I agree that they may be important and influential, but they are hardly ‘giants’ these people are, at best, the B team.
And the average height there has to be, I don’t know, 5’11″ at the most right?!
Can’t think of anyone in tech who is particularly tall. Steve Jobs was 6’2″ apparently.
Thanks! …Now I want some pizza!
Supper for 12. So…which one is Judas?…
If every other industry in history is anything to go by then these so called ‘giants’ are tomorrows failures. They will all move between the same few companies, may a few new start ups, as those companies entrench in the markets they are in. They will refuse to adapt and eventually they will be a part of the reason those companies collapsed / failed. This hero worship of the top employees of a company is just daft and always have been. They have enough power to cripple a company but little in the way of ability to take the company forward, thats down to the regular employees who do all the work.
Take Jony Ive for instance. He has been built up into some kind of Demi God, even honoured by the Queen. The iPhone 5 scratches so easily the ones in the shop look like they have been attacked by sandpaper and ones in real world use look in a worse state than a 2 year old iPhone 4 ( made from glass, arm… ) or an old 3GS. The 3Gs of course cracked around the headphone and button cutouts in the plastic back because the design and the materials it was made from were not compatible.
The last 3 phones he has designed ( which i’ve owned ) just cannot survive in real world situations without a case. What kind of designer is he?
