Microsoft’s gaming studio has implemented one of our wildest, most futuristic and joined-up tech dreams, by bringing a select few Xbox Live Arcade games to Windows 8 as part of its PLAY conversion attempt.
The current list of compatible titles is a bit poor, with only 15 games currently down as Windows 8 ready, and that includes such crappy old titles as Microsoft Solitaire Collection and Microsoft Minesweeper, but at least the technology is there and working.
Microsoft’s PLAY XBLA titles work on both standard Windows 8 and the tablet RT version of the OS, opening up the rather exciting prospect of playing your Xbox Live Arcade collection on a Surface tablet, or any other Windows 8 tab. [Microsoft via Techradar]

Do we know if this is something developers need to extensively convert in their software or will it be more of an emulator style affair supporting new XBLA games at least semi automatically?
Do you need to buy them again, or do you get to play them on Win8 for no extra charge if you bought them for xbox?
These sound suspiciously like the sort of questions a tech journalist ought to ask, even if the answer is “we don’t know yet”.
I wonder if they’ll be pairing up achievements. I saw someone in my friends list on my Xbox playing Dead Souls on Games for Windows Live. When I looked at their game list/achievements, they had achievement entries for both the Xbox and PC version.
I wonder if this is just them porting over the Windows Phone Xbox games to Windows RT?
