From certain angles you can barely see this beautiful bicycle—because it’s made from the same strong, lighthtweight and transparent plastic used in fighter jet canopies. It’s the perfect stealth bike.
A concept put together by Designaffairs, this bicycle—aptly called Clarity Bike—is built from a polymer called Trivex. First used in helicopter windscreens and then in fighter jet canopies, the material is incredibly light but can withstand major shocks. It’s also resistant to extremes of heat and cold, and can be injection moulded—so it would be perfect for making a bicycle. Designaffairs explain:
We believe that the Clarity Bike could be a giant leap forward in bicycle frame engineering and production. The design takes advantage of an advanced polymer which combines high impact resistance, lightweight properties and a gentle flexibility that usually would only be expected on an old Italian steel frame.
If this thing could be made affordably, they could sell an absolute tonne—and I, for one, would be at the front of the queue. [Designaffairs via Dezeen]

Super Tall Transforming Bike Lets You See Over Traffic
Nice concept. I, sadly, never learned to ride a bike but if I could, I am sure someone would see me coming towards them on that bike. It may be the wheels or my fatty frame that alerts them. Not too sure.
It’s not too late to learn
I suppose I could give it a go, yeah. I just need a bike.
As Mike said before me, it’s never too late! Jump on one and give it a go!
Thanks for the support! You too Mike!
Oh and we need a way to reply to multiple people. Or have I missed something, being relatively new here and all?
Unfortunately our commenting system is a bit of a spring chicken; I’ll note your request down for the future, however.
Awesome, I feel useful!
I bet you get all sorts of requests like quoting, the ability to add pictures and edit eh?
Yep — I have a very long list of features we need to add, next time our company’s developers have some free time!
Well I wish them look with that. I know how difficult it can be considering I’m training in ASP.NET for my job.
So yeah, Good Luck!
while on subject of commenting system, how do u clear the number of notifications once read? ive got 14 and counting!
You just click the grey “clear notifications” link, on the lower-right corner of the pop-up box, when you click on your name? If you’re still having issues, could you please let me know what browser you’re using?
ha sorry, totally missed that! sorted, ta kat!
No probs; happy to help
I never learnt either
While I’m impressed with the material’s strength and ability to make into bikes, anything that makes a bike fade into the background and less obvious to the White Van Brigade when biking through town unfortunately won’t get my vote.
Sweet! Just need some breaks!
A brake would be useful too!
Maybe if they stopped taking so many this would be more than just a concept!
The bike in the photo is a fixed wheel, or ‘fixie’. It’s got no freewheel, so you can’t stop pedaling. To brake you basically just pedal backwards.
You should still use a front brake for road use. Would be ok for track tho.
If they can injection mould this stuff then they can do so with a high power electro-luminescent wire down the centre. Wire that into a couple of hub dynamos, flick the switch and the entire frame will help you be seen from the side, with standard lights front and rear.
That would be generous!
Perhaps some genius, too?
None of the bikes on Gizmodo ever actually exist. They’re like tables. At least the watches are available, despite the extortionate prices.
That’s why we categorise these unrealistic creations under “concepts.”
…Yes.
Where’s the “realities” category?
That’s everything else
Don’t understand why cyclists are always blocking the left hand side of the roads where they hardly could cope up with vehicles! Shouldn’t they be riding along on pavements next to pedastrians instead, I could probably run faster than those annoying 15mph cyclists!
Unfortunately pedestrians can cope with 15MPH cyclists even less well than a motorist can in most instances. Unless there’s a cycle path, you’re supposed to be on the road anyway, though I will grant you many ride as if they own the road somewhat needlessly.
Arguments AGAINST riding on the pavement:
a) Pedestrians give you abuse
b) It’s unsafe for the peds
c) People walk/jump out in front of you
d) The pavements are often not wide enough for bikes (partly because people like you park on the pavement, partly due to our country’s roadways)
e) There isn’t always a pavement
f) It’s illegal.
Arguments FOR riding on the pavement
a) The cyclists might not get injured quite as easily
b) You can continue to drive along being an ignorant, self centered bigot, oh, who doesn’t have to slow down a tiny bit.
Edit b) You can continue drive along and doesn’t have to slow down to 10 MPH from 40MPH and indicate to right lane to avoid Cylists on the left lane.
Yep, better.
Would need a lot of convincing to trust a front fork/headtube made entirely of plastic.
That said, I would be able to indulge my life-long Wonder Woman fantasies…can anyone remember if she rode an invisible fixie?
