Wildlife film maker Gordon Buchanan had a close shave with a polar bear, after one spent 40 minutes trying to work out how to crack open the perspex case he was sitting in.
Buchanan managed to film the entire event, which starts with the polar bear curiously sniffing and prodding away at the man box. It all seems harmless enough, and like the two will emerge from the process as best buddies, until things turn rather hairy when the bear starts smashing into the case with all of its body weight once it’s found the weakest point of the box.
We think Gordon survived the experience. After all, his plastic man box was designed to survive such attacks. [YouTube via Gizmodo Australia]

This video has been edited to make the polar bear look bad. It quite reasonably mistook the metal and perspex enclosure for a vending machine and after putting in his money was enraged not to receive the item it had selected. It’s happened to us all.

I wish the polar bear had eaten Gordon Buchanan! I know his helped make some amazing films and documentary’s, I just find him rather irritating!
He seems to be staying remarkably calm. I wonder what he was like for the rest of the 45 minutes she spent trying to eat him…
Everyone gets pissed off with ready meals, they are a nightmare to open.
