The people of the Russian city of St. Petersburg have come out as huge Steve Jobs fans, with a local university unveiling a bizarre, man-sized iPhone that functions as a digital memorial to the late tech guru.
The enormous iPhone, located in the city’s National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, cycles through facts and stats about the man and his creations, while the back of the sculpture features a QR code that links to a memorial web site, just in case you haven’t paid enough respects to the man by visiting a massive digital shrine.
We’re sure Steve would be flattered. Or perhaps enraged about its design copyright infringements and hell-bent on its destruction. [Ria Novosti via TNW]

seriously though, I do wonder if this is an attempt to get publicity and maybe a nice donation of Apple hardware for the University.
