So, RIM is now just BlackBerry. BlackBerry 10 is finally here too, and we’ve been bestowed with not one, but two new BB10 handsets — the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10. Even the PlayBook’s getting in on the BB10 action. But what do you really think? Is this enough to save RIM BlackBerry? Or are we just staring down the barrel of another “Palm Pre moment”?

This Is the New BlackBerry Z10
BlackBerry Z10 Review: Not Good Enough
BlackBerry Z10 Named as First BB10 Hardware
It’s sad to say, but I have a feeling we’re witnessing a replay of the Palm Pre launch. Next HP will step in and buy BlackBerry, later to just kill it off. I doubt anyone will open-source BB10 though.
The pre came to mind too.
Agreed – still waiting on WebOS to come to my S3 though – it’s never going to happen :’(
Alicia Keys is the new ‘creative director’. Last tech thing she put her name to was the HP Touchpad. I don’t believe in coincidences.
“This girl is on FIRRRREEEE” by that she means Fire Sale
A bit like that girl that went to Zavvi, then to another company and then to HMV right?
Do you mean Simon Fox, MD of Comet, then CEO of Jessops then current CEO of HMV?
Simon Fox was Comet boss before a stint at HMV.
When Fox left HMV, ex Jessops CEO Trevor Moore took his place.
Walking disaster.
I don’t understand what that was about! Why Alicia Keys? What makes them think she would be committed to a cause like that, when it sort of puts corporate restrictions on her creative juices and doesn’t pay as much either.
I think the phones look good, and their features seem excellent too
and I asked myself why I wouldn’t buy one
and its pretty much down to price
have just ordered my n4 and want to get away from expensive monthly contracts
but if I was to stay with expensive contracts then iPhone and flagship android phones do have this sewn up.
BUT
if it was a choice between windows phone and the Z10, I think I would chose the Z10 (I don’t like physical keyboards)
I think WP8 would be a better option. The strong support system (a.k.a Tech Behemoth, Microsoft) behind it is one very good reason. If you buy a BB, you’re sort of on your own. If the company that made it doesn’t believe in its own product, then chances are that they might abandon it as well.
I was kind of hoping for a luxury iPhone esque handset stainless steel case that sort of thing, this is disappointing, and a lot of buyers out their are ONLY interested in looks, if they’d made it drop dead gorgeous Im sure they would have caught the eye of the wider market instead of chasing the cheaper to midrange market. or they should at least have launched the Z10 along side a more luxury version, and covered all bases.
It’s a decent phone. Almost similar to HTC.
I think the problem is not the product, but the company and its leadership.
I like it. It seems good and functional. If it wasn’t for the price, company, or walking away from device compatibility with the rest of the world I’d consider it.
But then stack it up:
BB Z10 = £500
Note II = £400 (on ebay)
Nexus 4 16GB = £279
It then seems like a really bad joke.
Even their qwerty won’t be enough from getting into administration.
They could potentially stop current users who were tempted to switch to something else at the end of their current contract from leaving blackberry, and maybe they could also tempt some users back who have tried something else but been disappointed.
It is easy to forget that blackberry still have quite a large market share, especially among younger smartphone users.
hmmm the hardware seems mid range but selling at premium price. and the software is nothing spectacular, especially the maps, which is very basic to say the least. there is really no reason whatsoever to choose bb10 over android, ios6, or maybe even windows8
Well it does work for Apple.
Will it save BB? Probably not, after tech sites and journalists worked extra hard for many months to assure all of us readers that BB10 is a lousy clusterfuck that will never work. Before – you know – ever having actually seen it let alone used it, that is.
Giz did sterling work in this regard.
Oh, and I think I have just found my next phone.
…too many tech sites hating on tech.
Couldn’t have disagreed more.
