No, you don’t need a damn case for your iPhone 5—but if you have butterfingers and you must use a case, this seems to me like the only acceptable one. The SurfacePad is not only simple and elegant—complementing the iPhone’s design rather than turning it into an ugly hulk or a clear-plastic-wrapped granny sofa—but also has function. And it protects your screen too, unlike 99 per cent of the offensively horrible covers out there.
Made of ultra-thin and smooth napa leather, the TwelveSouth’s SurfacePad can also serve as a stand. Like the manufacturer says, it’s not designed to resist a car getting over your iPhone, but it will protect your mobile against the most common threats without turning its clean lines into a unrecognisable mass of deformed plastic. And for that alone, I applaud them.
It’s £35 (including international shipping) and available for iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4S. [TwelveSouth]

Wait, you have to stick this to your actual phone?
I assumed it was magnetic.
The site says it’s a “special” adhesive.
“special” adhesive. gross. rhymes with spank86 right?!
Shame there isn’t a version for people who don’t live in caves and communicate in ‘uggs’ and by hitting each other with clubs.
Christ, he’s a bit too assertive about this case thing, isn’t he! If I want a case, I’ll have one.
plus, he can’t make his mind up. it sure is a roller-coaster series!
I can’t wait till the next installment.
It doesn’t protect the sides, the one part you want to protect on the iPhone as they’re made of metal.
But the back of the iPhone 5 is also metal.
It’s generally the impact on the side if any phone that does the worst damage, generally to the screen. A dint in the might not be so catastrophic.
Yea it’s the sides that scratch into crap after a few days in your pocket. I have had to get a super slim hard case for mine and it’s the first time I’ve ever bought a cover for a phone. I even sanded the whole cover down to be as thin as possible so it doesn’t add any bulk to the phone. This is the black iphone only. The white one has silver metal on the sides and doesn’t suffer the same problem.
Don’t tell me what to do! I’ll by and iPhone case even though I don’t own one. Deal with it! Fuck the police! Yolo!
“it’s not designed to resist a car getting over your iPhone”
My car has been trying to get over my iphone for months. I suggested meeting new friends and maybe joining a yoga class but the pain is just too much. Poor thing.
But seriously, how does it attach to the phone? Is it sticky? And it doesn’t protect the corners or sides. Quite a fail of a case in my opinion because of that.
This is just a paid advertisement anyway so it really doesn’t matter if it’s good or not.
