If you thought Sony’s 84-inch 4K TV was expensive at around £16,000, then think again. Samsung has announced the pricing of its new flagship model — and you could buy a number of cars with the same cash.
Samsung’s new 85-inch S9, which we described as “massive, and beautiful, and everything wonderful that can be wonderful about a TV”, will initially go on sale in Korea. When it does, it will cost 40,000,000 won — which is £23,500. Yep, the price of a BMW.
Sure, you get quite a lot of technology encased in that TV — a huge and beautiful Precision Black Pro LCD panel, sophisticated built in 2.2 sound, and a quad-core CPU to power the behemoth along — but blimey, that’s a heck of a lot of cash.
So, here’s a fun game: if you had the requisite bundle of cash lying around, would you buy this TV, or something else altogether?

I would buy a cheapo 37″ from ASDA and give the rest to a charity for orphaned puppies. What, this isn’t a Miss World competition?
But Seriously, some people (myself included) can’t get on the property ladder because of the prohibitive cost of a deposit and people are spending what could be a deposit on a very nice starter home on a damn TV? Madness.
i would kill for a deposit..
You just sent me back to depression state again, cheers!
I don’t see why not – If you like the aesthetics and have enough money that it won’t affect your quality of life to buy the TV then why not. If you have a £10mil house in Hampstead I can only that kind of money isn’t a big deal.
I’m sure someone like WILL.I.AM, Lil’ Wayne etc would buy!

It’s aimed at those same people who buy a Lamborghini Aventador but drive it around London without tax or insurance, then just go buy another one when it gets confiscated.
£23,500 to buy but there’s no media that displays natively on it and even if there was, there’s still nothing to watch on TV.
Why do they bother putting speakers in sets like this? If you’re spending that much on a TV then I’m guessing you’ve got some high-end audio equipment to go with it.
I’ve just checked Sony’s UK site and their 84″ TV is £25,000 but sadly that does not make the Samsung any more affordable for me.
