This is not a mile high club you want to be a part of. On a flight from Reykjavik, Iceland to JFK in the US yesterday, a drunken passenger got so unruly that the flight crew had to restrain him. To his seat. With duct tape and zip ties. Check out the full image below. [Buzzfeed]

Nice!!!
man, that must be so uncomfortable lol
Reykjavik to JFK is no way 10 hours.
This photo should be used as part of the airlines next ad campaign.

“I’m sorry sir, were you complaining about the drinks service?”
I never knew you were allowed to do this to other passengers!
I’m taking a really long roll of duct tape on my next flight
Whilst I appreciate the picture, I would like some more details about it. Such as, how many crew members were needed to duct tape the passenger to his seat? What is the current legislation on duct taping passengers to their seat? Do all aircrafts have a roll of duct tape ready for this kind of emergency? How many times did he promise he would sue the company?
Funny. That’s how I feel every time the seatbelt light came on.
Would have sucked if he threw up while his mouth was duck taped.
He would have probably choked to death and died.
Ignore the and died bit on the end of that.
Choking to death and then dying must be terrible.
Lol! Brilliant!
“Icelandair confirmed the incident adding that plastic ties and tape are standard on all flights.
“This equipment is on board all our flights in case an incident like this arises,” airline spokesman Michael Raucheisen said.”
And what happens in the event that the plane crashes? That guy’s got no chance what so ever. I appreciate that he must have been a right cunt and we all wish we could have done this to someone at some point in our life, but fucking hell when did it become socially and morally acceptable to duck tape someone to a bloody plane seat. Worth thing is, with a good layer, the douche probably has a pretty food case against the airline.
worse* .. we need edit button.
Lawyer * . Yes I did go to school !
I’d say this is acceptable as soon as a passenger becomes a danger to everyone else on the plane. What else can you do? Have him assault the cabin crew and put everyone elses life in danger or tie him up. If he manages to sue for this something is very wrong.
Yeah, if he’s putting the rest of the passengers in any danger, even if he’s just preventing the crew from doing their jobs, then this is entirely acceptable. It’s not like they can call the police, restraining him might be the only option.
Also, you missed “has a pretty food case”.
It’s just my opinion that the ties on the legs and hands would have surely been enough to control the fucker, duck tape just looks way overkill, over the mouth being potentially someone dangerous aswel.
That tape is clearly there to secure him to the seat, or else he’d be able to move around some, even with his legs tied.
Taping the mouth is dangerous, but apparently the crew were ‘monitoring’ him ‘for his own safety’.
I’m with you, mate. Doesn’t matter how much of a wanker he’s being, it’s not okay to tie him up like that. Surely there’s training for shit like this, and surely to god this isn’t how they’re meant to react.
I hope he sues, and I hope they severely reprimand the crew responsible.
Now don’t get me wrong I’m all about tossers suffering (gawd knows we have all dealt with them on planes and well elsewhere). However if this guy is drunk and vomits while duct tapped gagged…. well that wont end well for him or any lawsuits for the airline.
Personally if he has done something to warrant that sort of treatment I don’t care if he dies (yes I’m a bad person) but if that happens a lot of good people will likely suffer.
“To ensure the safety of those who were on board he was restrained by the crew and passengers and then was monitored for the duration of the flight for his own safety”
I’m guessing this means that someone was sitting next to him the whole time to ensure that didn’t happen.
Pretty fishy; the guy does a load of gropey shouty sweary stuff, and is only restrained and gaffer-taped by members of the public, and then not arrested when they touch down in JFK?

“he was restrained by passengers and crew”
“Upon arrival at JFK the flight was met by authorities who arrested the male.”
“the man had not been charged by federal or local authorities.”
You have to wonder why he wasn’t charged, but without knowing the factors of that decision, it’s hard to judge.
Ah I was wrong about the arrested bit; I was going by the quote from the guy who posted the picture:
“Fellow passengers subdued him and tie him up for the rest of the flight. He was escorted off the flight by police when it landed.”
It wasn’t that I wanted the guy to get convicted of being proper weird when drunk, it was more that the whole situation is odd; a picture ends up on Tumblr, posted by a guy whose ‘friend’ wants to remain anonymous and well out of it. Cue conflicting reports and quotes from different sites and newspapers, in which no one from the flight (in which damn near everyone in that class must have been a witness of a victim to this guy’s gropey shoutiness) wants to come forward.
