Mozilla has just announced a pair of Developer Preview Phones that will come sporting its new, in-development Firefox OS. They’ve got basic specs, since they’re just for developers and looks….though one of them is very, very orange.
First up is the orange thing, codenamed Keon. It features a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, 1GHz Snapdragon S1 CPU, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage (with a microSD card slot), WiFi, and a 3-megapixel camera. Like we say, basic. It will be continually updated with OTA OS updates, and will be carrier-unlocked, so devs can tinker to their heart’s content.
The white Peak is classier on both fronts: 4.3″ qHD IPS display, 1.2GHz processor, 1,800mAh battery, and a tastier-looking 8MP shooter on the back; though, the RAM and storage stays the same.
There’s no word on pricing, but they’re scheduled to be available next month. If you’re going to plump for either, make it the white. [Geeksphone via Engadget]

Round edge? Off you go Apple, *woof*woof*
Apple aren’t going to be happy about that button.
Two cellular strength and two battery bars? sounds legit
Well spotted
Both bars have a different time too, an hour apart!
This too!
In the remotest of remote possibilities it could be worldwide time from two zones, but in reality it’s more likely a bad photoshop ^_^
I just thought I’d point something out that isn’t “ohlolcallApple”
Where’s that ugly face Puppy at?
I’d still love to see you under those treads!
I’d still love to see you under those treads!
I’d still love to see you under those treads!
I’d still love to see you under those treads!
I’d still love to see you under those treads!
Seriously?
Honestly?
Apparently ..
Actually!
POTATO
*throws hands in air*
Oh, brother…
If anyone is interested to get a similar theme. Look for Circilize Retina in Cydia.
Then get a sampler pot of “terracotta” shade paint from your local DIY Shop and Bingo, Nobody knows you have an iPhone and everyone will think Firefox OS has loads of Apps. It’s win-win.
Perfectoooo
I’d still love to see you under those treads!
hhahahahahaa

iPhone from the front, HTC One from the back
Gave you a like just for the user name.

Nope, but I can.

and POOF! off in the night I go, behind a trail of stars and sparkles.
HOLLYMOLLLYJIZZZZZINMYPAAAAAANTS!!!! A FRIGGIN STARRRRRRRRRRRRRR AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
and you poofed before i could say im forever in your debt….. meh, never mind
What’s with the star system anyway.
20 comment likes gives you a star, or a starred commenter can star another one. Just a prestige thing really. There have been a couple of starred commenter events but they’ve all been in London. To be honest even though I got my star in about the first week of Giz UK I’ve not noticed too many benefits but there may well be some in the future who knows?
Uhhhh..what if a Starred member gave stars to random people because they have no idea what it does ??
Random people get stars!
I’m a random person!
Well not really, I’ve been around a while. I just tend to be quite quiet. Ah well
Yeah, I sorta accidentally gave one away the other day, screen was off and I clicked the mouse a load of times…
That colour.
DO we need another phone OS?
I mean one of the things I always liked about windows (PC)was most programs ran on it so you didn’t have to think to much about which programs you’d want. I’m sure there will be a lot of overlap but It’s always annoying to find out the next great thing in the app world isn’t coing out for your platform.
FFOS is basically a web browser with deeper access to hardware than you get on say Android browsers. The idea is apps are built in JS and HTML5 so there are already a ton of developers who know how to program the thing and a lot of code floating around that can be fairly simply adapted.
FFOS runs on a cut down version of linux (Gonk) which affords the browser (based on the gecko engine) these extra hardware privileges to things like the phone stack to make calls. The UI (Gaia) is completely done in HTML/CSS/JS so technically it can run on other OS’s as well like Android.
I agree that we probably don’t need another OS but competition is only ever a good thing!
Oh wow, an orange iPhone!
My brother had one of these a few weeks ago, says its ok but nothing to write home about. Its designed for 3rd world countries and alike. The only reason he has one is because of the BBC and there endless testing on as many devices going.
I think I can hear Apple lawyers salivating…
