Smart gadgets you can wear are all the rage, but Toshiba’s Computer Graphics Watch prototype kind of misses the point.
The hulking watch has a watch 320 x 100 OLED and is powered by an ARM processor and is designed to pair with your smartphone via Bluetooth. It’s huge, like fancy rich guy watch except the OLED jewels inside don’t shine. We saw the prototype cycling through a bunch of different types of applications including a beating heart-rate monitor and a simulated analogue watch. It also demoed notifications based on geo-location.
Sure this is just a prototype, but it’s hardly something you’d dream of having. People don’t need computer graphics on their arms—they need quick and dirty information in a lightweight package. But, who knows, maybe this is just one stop on the way to something hugely better.

Looks like they’ve copied the Pebble
And the Pebble copied…
What is interesting is that we are today with smart watches, where we were a few months before the launch of iPhone in 2007. Companies of various sizes, from the Pebble guys to Toshiba and LG are launching or demonstrating their attempts at a new genre.
Meanwhile, the stealthy submarine that is Apple is slowly methodically approaching the coastline, prior to launching a barrage of nuclear tipped missiles that will render all upstarts to a radioactive wasteland.
And then Google will follow suit with another barrage, in conjunction with their recent acquisition from Libertyville, Il. NEXUS W anyone?
