A Windows Phone 8 error that asks you to put in your Windows installation disc and restart the computer. It sounds too funny to be true, right? Apparently it’s not. According to some digging by WMPoweruser, it’s rare, but real.
Initially, the humorous error made two appearances on Twitter, by Mikko Hypponen and Johnny Ruokokoski. And the pair of instances seemed to imply that this wasn’t just a joke.
But if that’s not enough for you, Windows Phone Support got involved, basically confirming (or at least not denying) this as a real error. It’s just not one that normal users should ever see. Instead, it’s a rather deep-seated error that can only be teased out if you start messing with flashing new firmware. If you were looking for proof that Windows Phone 8 is actually on the NT kernel, this stands as pretty good proof, WMPoweruser points out. That, and it’s funny. You sir, have a strange sense of humour..
I can see how this could be funny when someone actually tries to insert their Windows 8 boot disk into the phone……
Must just be an error that has come across from the backbone running system of the OS.
Could this help people Root Windows Phone 7 and/or 8?!
Hahaha.
So they want us to hook up some sort of usb external optical drive?
Would that even be remotely possible? Is so, LETS INSTALL XP ON MY WINDOWS 8 PHONE!
LMFAO – it should of said “Bend over and insert your windows cd”
Maybe we could dual boot this device ??
Nope, its bios checks the OS to see if its windows or not.
Would the bios not load before the windows bootloader? if so, which is my understanding – then it would be hackable
I don’t think you can flash it sadly, even if you could modern BIOS’s (uEFI) are pretty complex so it would be hard to create a modified version.
Buggermitimbers – didn’t think of uEFI – you could be right!

My Nokia Lumia 820 and a few of my colleagues phones (inc lumia 920) have been error free since we got them in november is this is a real issue it may be that someone unofficially reflashed/updated their phone rather than waiting like the rest of us for the official update with extra features…
