This is wonderful. Jason Bruges Studio created an interactive installation that can react to touch and reveal digital animals inside a children’s hospital. It’s really clever, there are 70 LED panels with 72,000 LEDs in total hidden behind the wallpaper of the rainforest. When started, the wall makes it seem as if animals are traveling through the forest.
Different panels are hidden behind the wallpaper at different heights so that it can reach the various eye levels of kids. The animals actually look like they are moving inside the wallpaper because the wallpaper has been designed to reveal the patterns of light on the screen. It’s lovely and absolutely incredible for a child.
The installation is inside the halls of the children’s hospital in the new Morgan Stanley clinical building, the first part of the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre in the UK. I think every children’s hospital should have this. Better yet, I think every child’s room should have this. To see a video of the wall in action, check it out here (it autoplays). That’s funky.
“The installation is inside the halls of the children’s hospital in the new Morgan Stanley clinical building, the first part of the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre in the UK.”
Might be worth just replacing this with “The installation is inside the halls of Great Ormond St children’s hospital” – I had to Google for where this was!
Given Casey is an American, he might not be as familiar with GOSH as us Brits – it’s a forgiveable thing.
True, it wasn’t meant as a negative comment on the article but more of an edit suggestion for the trans-atlantic journey.
So people rub their grubby hands all over a wall that everyone else has rubbed their grubby hands on. Surely this isn’t going to do wonders for the spread of viruses in this hospital…?
Ever heard of disinfectant?
It comes in sprays, on wipes, you can add it to water.. it’s a miraculous chemical for killing off viruses and such.
Whether it’ll get used is a different question, granted.. but generally, they’d be onto a winner if they used it!
Ever heard of Norovirus and other such things that are a massive problem in hospitals? There are all sorts of cleaning and hygiene regulations in place but even with these the viruses still breakout sometimes. Stuff like this will only add to the problem.
Agreed, they are.. that’s down to personal vigilance.
When entering hospital wards these days, there’s an alcohol hand sanitisation point just after entering/before exiting, these are expected to be used by everyone (so the sign says above it) I’m sure it’ll help, although as it’s up to humans to use it, it won’t stop contamination 100%.
From the same point of view, that comment could also apply to public toilets amongst other things.
It’s in a children’s ward…. children are going to touch things, whether they have cool lights behind them or not. If you’re 5 years old and are in hospital for a long period of time (as many children at GOSH are) then you’re probably going to touch every surface in the place!
Instead of telling them to sit still and not touch, let them play and just make sure you get them used to disinfecting their hands.
