The 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who will see the timelord exploring an as-yet uncharted dimension, thanks to the BBC deciding to film the hour-long special of the sci-fi pantomime in 3D.
If you managed to avoid the torrent of manufacturer hype around 3D televisions, you’ll still be able to see the Doctor waving his sonic screwdriver out of the screen in cinemas. The BBC is still “working out the logistics” of how to distribute the 3D special in cinemas without appearing to devalue the TV experience, but it should happen.
The 50th anniversary of the time travelling show hits screens this November, with the special one-off adventure broadcast on November 23rd on all the usual frequencies. [BBC via io9]

even better in 3D, it’s like you can touch her.
Do people watch this show? I saw one once in like 2005 or whatever and it was horrible.
Nope, nobody watches it whatsoever.
I Do, and I don’t care who knows it.
(actually, don’t tell anyone, I’m not that proud)
I know plenty of people who watch it, and love it (including myself). It’s absolutely fantastic, and I don’t care who disagrees with me, you’re entitled to your opinion.
I actually thought the first 3 words of the title were sufficient for me.
Yes. It’s cheesy these days, but very creative and generally quite amusing
.
Shoot it at 48fps, and then noone’ll complain it doesn’t look like TV/TV doesn’t look like the film.
Ez.
What?
The BBC is still “working out the logistics” of how to distribute the 3D special in cinemas without appearing to devalue the TV experience, but it should happen”
People complained the Hobbit looked like TV, because it was shot at 48. Do the same for Doctor Who.
but doctor who is already TV. and film-like pal TV at that. Am I missing a really obvious joke here or something?
I mean if they distribute it in progressive PAL, then it wont look too much unlike film with it being 25fps. But if they distribute it interlaced (and the projector’s image processor fills in the empty lines) then it’s 50, and 2 frames faster than 48. I must be missing something.
Aslong as there’s still a proper version, then I’m happy. Nice to know what they’re wasting their budget on though.
