Looks like the Iron Patriot’s gotten a massive upgrade since his debut. Shiny new suit, technically a new actor, and a badass-looking weapon strapped to his back. Apparently he’s got to protect the President while Stark’s off blasting bad guys and having oodles of, errr, fun in Iron Man 3, so it’s good job he’s armed to the teeth.
I keep thinking Iron Man 3 is miles away, but despite what the poster says, it actually opens on April 26th in the UK. Only a couple of months to wait, then. Let’s hope it continues the trend of solid Marvel movies and doesn’t falter, pulling “a Matrix Revolutions” on us. [Facebook via Total Film]

I do like how a bulk of the most anticipated films this summer and very close to each other, Iron Man 3, Star Trek ID, Kick Ass 2, Man of Steel and others. Going to be one helluva summer.

Why is War Machine the Patriot? Wasn’t it Norman Osborne who became Patriot?
If going by Raimi’s Spiderman, he dead.
Yes it was. I think Marvel’s taking some licence with the films or something.
And Marvel can’t use Osborne, so they’ve just upgraded War Machine instead.
In the Ultimate books going on right now, Tony himself has become that version of the Iron Patriot, so it’s not as if the comics are steadfast in assigning that identity to Osborne either.
The only thing that connects Iron Patriot throughout its various incarnations is Tony’s intention to reflect the heroism and symbolism of Captain America. So, following the Avengers, it makes sense that it would wind up being something along the same lines here.

Apparently he isn’t supposed to be Iron Patriot per se, his armour just looks similar. The producers have slightly different intentions for Rhodey’s character:

Since his awful English accent in the Ocean trilogy, I can’t stand watching Don Cheedle. Thankfully I’m so excited about seeing Ironman 3, I will endure him again!
