RockS2V is working hard to build a name for itself when it comes to emergency survival gear. The company’s Provision coat includes a built-in life-saving toolkit if you find yourself stranded somewhere remote, and its new Substratum boots feature a secret compartment inside designed to stash an emergency fire starting kit.
In reality you can put anything you want in the small compartment hidden in the heel, but you’re probably better off just keeping the Sparkie flint fire starter and WetFire tinder cubes in there—instead of your emergency Skittles. And of course the $279 (approx £180) boots are designed to keep your feet dry and warm on your trek with Vibram rubber outsoles, PrimaLoft insulation, and extra-tough paracord laces. And worse comes to worse, they’ll probably burn right alongside any firewood you can find. [RockyS2V via Gizmag]

Try getting them onto a plane.
Oh deary me!
I think that’s a pretty neat idea – but I find myself wondering if the integrity of the boot is compromised in the process? I mean anybody who is serious about going out on a trip where this is necessary is going to have a serious pair of boots up to the task- and more than likely have the firelighters in their backpack or similar. Could they have used that space more efficiently to improve on… booty things?
