According to the Financial Times, Google is currently in talks with “big music labels to launch a streaming service to compete with companies such as Spotify.” Google previously launched its own digital music store over a year ago but this service will be different than the digital tunes shop, Google’s streaming music service will offer free unlimited access to songs (with adveritsements), along with subscription options. Wouldn’t it be easier to buy Spotify?
Seconded
But it might be cheaper to make this.
Thirded. Please, Google. Please.
It’ll be interesting to see how this integrates with the existing Google Play Music, to which I’ve uploaded my entire music collection.
If I could stream my own songs (which Google may not have rights to) alongside Google’s new streaming content, all for free, then that would be cheaper than buying Spotify, and easier for me.
The problem with Spotify is that you can only listen to the same song 5 times if you don’t pay, and you still have the adverts. Grooveshark offers a better service than this, without adverts, so I use this over Spotify now.
The Spotify UI is also a bit of a nightmare at times, the song queueing being particularly badly handled. That said, looking up an artist is great, giving you direct access to user playlists, albums and most popular songs in one initial view. I just wish it was all more clearly structured and didn’t rely on the ‘Back’ button so much.
