If you haven’t had your fill of cloud storage by now, here’s how to grab yourself another 50GB of the stuff from Box, not just for a year or two, but for life. Plus, you can gift your friends 50GB too.
The catch is you have to be a new user, or have another email address (don’t forget Gmail totally ignores punctuation), and technically this is a “Dell Exclusive Offer”, but there’s no confirmation that you actually own a Dell when you sign up.
All you have to do is plug your details into the form, confirm your email, and Bob’s your cloud-loving uncle, you’ll have 50GB of free storage from Box. You can even gift 50GB to at least two of your friends.
For me, it’s a shame it’s not Dropbox, but 50GB free for life from Box could come in handy, because you never know when you could need more storage, and free’s free, right? [Box via PCMag]

I wonder what they do with the uploaded data? can they use any of it for commercial purposes or is it totally private?
Never assume your data won’t be read by others – if it’s personal and you don’t want anyone to read it, encrypt it before uploading!
What’s the best way to do this? I regulary upload stuff to Dropbox but how would I encrypt it first?
So true, Ratheon might be all over it
Noob question, but i have an slr and don’t want my images to be seen by others! how can i encrypt them?
If you’re using Windows, try Truecrypt – it’s free and you can encrypt just about anything with it.
Also the is a 250mb file limit which Sam neglected to mention.
Yeah, I got 50GB free when they released their Android app, but it is not as useful as you would think.
Most useful things you try do on it asks you to upgrade to a paid account!
I find it pretty useful – yes, there’s a file limit size (which I believe has just been doubled) but unless you want to archive videos – which on my connection would take forever – I have no problems at all, especially since they launched their Box folder sync Windows app. And waddaya want for nuthin’?
To be fair, if you want to do video’s, why not just put them on Youtube and keep them hidden if you don’t want people to see them?
I use these thing to torrent files at work and send them home over the course of a day, saves my crappy home Interent the pleasure.
I was going to ask about this as it used to be worse (about 100mb I think!) 250mb isn’t too bad. I managed to grab this when they had the mistakes a while ago dishing out 1gb file size limit, but I hardly use it because it was was slow.
Cool. Just added another 50Gb to my Box arsenal!
I am always sceptical about putting my phone number into any form. Has anyone noticed anything unsolicited etc. from them after putting in their number?
I must admit, free though it is, the prospect of ads or upgrade nags does put me off too.
Why would you put your real number in there? Not needed and solely captured to spam you so use the one I do, Information Commissioners!
Well, I can put all my DSLR shots here and then keep my Google Drive free for normal backup type stuff
