The Raspberry Pi Foundation has had a camera module in the works for since May last year, but it’s finally getting closer to reality. It’ll apparently cost about the same as the Pi board, so £20-odd, and will be capable of HD video. Probably 5MP then — perfect for those self-built aerial spy drones to keep tabs on your neighbours.
A release date for the thing is, unfortunately, not forth coming, but what you’re looking at here is the final hardware, so it should be available relatively soon — “at least a month away” is the official word.
So, what do you have planned for a camera-packing Pi? Maybe a spy bot, or a super-cheap video conferencing thing. Perhaps you can use it to make a tele-presence bot, or even a remote reconnaissance robot? Hell, it could just be made into a video doorbell thing, if you’re that way inclined. The possibilities are endless. [Raspberry Pi]

Easier low level programming I guess as it uses the GPIO pins. You can access these more directly in assembly language which opens up wider possibilities.
