The incoming HTC flagship phone, rumoured to be pretty special and codenamed the M7, is apparently just going to be called the HTC One, according to the often-on-the-money @EvLeaks. Not to be confused with the One X, One S, One V, or any other of the ‘One’ series, mind you. Let’s hope HTC knows what it’s doing. We’ll find out on February 19th. [EvLeaks via TechCrunch]

This Is Apparently What the HTC M7 Flagship Phone Will Look Like
HTC's M7 is 2013's High-Spec, 1080p Android Flagship
They really should go with another name. I can actually see people getting confuse already. Same thing with the Galaxy line. When I talk to people many times they get confused with the Galaxy naming.
Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy S
Galaxy 10.1
For most of us Giz readers there is no problem, but when you are trying to instruct someone on a phone it complicates things a bit.
There are other Galaxy products from Samsung I just won’t be searching for them.
I just remembered something, even searching for accessories gets more complicated.
Can you imagine Joe Bloggs on the street going into a phone shop and asking for an HTC One? They’re blatantly going to get palmed off with a One X, One S etc etc.
Aye
definitely in Phones4U
“I’d like a HTC One X+ please!”
-Leaves with HTC One V-
That wouldn’t be good for HTC, let alone the consumer. I like the name “One”, but if you’ve gone One X/S/V etc, then there’s no turning back, surely? Well, unless you’re Apple and you decide numbers are so last year *rolls eyes*.
I do think they should have gone forward with a new naming convention, as this is meant to be a new flagship phone, that sits in the same range of their previous flagship phone
should have gone for a cool name – for instance “HTC Awesome Fire Breathing Dragons and Shit, X”
I like it, sleek, clean design. Looks a bit like a black HTC 8X, just the android variant
One may consider staying with the same version of Android for next two decade without any upgrade with HTC, unless and until one knows how to root, given that HTC made it harder than ever before to root their devices. Rant ends, many thanks.
ps. screw you HTC
+1 hence my move to a Nexus. Got so tired of having to wait for any official upgrades from HTC.
Me too
N4 will probably be the best phone of this year.
There are no disputes here, I had the HTC Desire Z, I saw the Froyo update, but I don’t think i actually got Gingerbread until I Rooted it
I think the HTC ‘One’ series has a terrible brandname. Their company name is already a three letter initialism, and adding a number in front of that and a letter in front of that just produces something a string of five alphanumeric characters.
Names like ‘HTC1V’ or ‘HTC8X’ have no charisma to them. They sound like part of a serial code. No wonder their sales have been so terrible.
