This might be a little bit too late, but Vodafone’s warning iPhone users to steer clear of the latest iOS 6.1 update as it apparently causes issues with 3G data, texts and calls — basically everything, then. Apparently Apple’s working on a fix, but who knows how long that’ll take.
Vodafone says the problems are intermittent, which means they’re a pain in the neck to diagnose. However, it means that if you’re having issues at all connecting to the network, you might be caught up in this mess.
Currently it’s only affecting iPhone 4S users, so iPhone 5 users should be fine, according to Vodafone at least:
“We’re aware of an issue caused by Apple iPhone 4s handsets that have been upgraded to iOS 6.1 which impacts performance on 3G.
Some customers may occasionally experience difficulty in connecting to the network to make or receive calls or texts or to connect to the Internet. Apple is working on a solution to their software issue. These connection problems are intermittent.”
Apparently Vodafone sent out text messages to all those with an iPhone 4S on its network, presuming you bought it from the network, so if you’re affected you should know by now. If you’re an unlocked iPhone 4S owner on Vodafone, you might want to steer clear of the iOS 6.1 update for a bit. It’s not like it really added anything useful for us Brits, anyway. I fall into this, but then our local cell has been broken since New Years Day, so I’ve had no 3G and limited Edge for the best part of a month and a half.
Ouch. Vodafone offered you compensation or something?
Don’t be stupid networks never do you any favors. They overcharge you for a shit service and never admit any fault.
Curiously I got the text warning (Unlocked 4S, *not* purchased from Vodafone) so they must have a list of IMEI numbers of 4S users..
That’d be correct, all IMEI’s used on the network are logged. That list is then deciphered using TAC and your device make a model provided. Voda would then text all users using those devices. All pretty simple.
I have a 4S on Vodafone and haven’t noticed anything worse than the slow, flaky service I normally get.
I’m one of those who got the text. Thankfully haven’t “upgraded” to 6.1 yet. After 6.0 came with so much crap I hold off on iOS updates until all the shit has hit the fan and been cleared up before updating.
I’m also going to have to be SERIOUSLY impressed by future iphones if they want me to buy another one…
Don’t know about 3G issues but ios 6.1 slowed my iPhone 4 to a crawl, apparently its because my phone is too slow to run all the Apps which ran perfectly fine the day before, I better give Apple some more money he said sarcastically.
There is a fix, uninstall the Vodafone patch you’re meant to install after activation. Mine is fine as I didn’t instal it after getting the greeting text to download the connection details!
