The spec of your phone’s camera looks like being the next tech battleground now everything half decent is running on a monstrous quad-core chipset, with Google joining HTC in banging on about how amazing its next Nexus phone camera’s going to be.
The latest PR claim comes from Google man Vic Gundotra, who was jovially answering comments about his camera habit over in a photo-based thread in his G+ page. Responding to a man badgering him about mobile imaging quality, Gundotra said: “We are committed to making Nexus phones insanely great cameras. Just you wait and see.”
He also took time to do a bit of Google Glass evangelism on the side, saying: “Obviously I’m taking my Android phone and Google Glass” as if it’s already become indispensable. [Vic Gundotra via Android Community]

“Insanely great”?
He’s been reading Gizmodo too much.
Still, it beats “AWESOME”.
Not quite as good as “INCREDIBLE” though
They’ve gone to plaid.
I’ve always favour “Trouser Creamingly Good”
I might just use that
If “your phone’s camera looks like being the next tech battleground” then that makes me quite happy as my Nexus 4 has 8MP (had to look that up!) which is more than good enough for me for basic snapping and I won’t be green with envy as phones come out with increased MP’s or light sensors or whatever else gives photographers heart palpitations
Isn’t the Nexus 4 camera pretty average?
Quite possibly, all I know is it’s more than enough for my point-and-shoot pics and if for the next year or two phone manufacturers are going to be focussing (pun) on improving cameras then I don’t care
However, if they doubled (or more) battery life then that would be something which would make me ‘itch’ for the latest phone.
I think it is, my galaxy S2 is better quality wise. Alas, the sacrifices we must make for stock android
Not only that though, surely there is no other phone in the market that could beat the price tag of Nexus 4s?
As long as the battery life starts going anywhere near towards being insanely great, they can do whatever they want with the camera.
Sorry Gary, he didn’t say “Next-Gen Nexus Phone Cameras to be “Insanely Great”” What he said could easily be applied to current and last gen too. The main difference between the camera in an Nexus phone and the camera in one with Touchwiz or Sense is that Samsung and HTC pay royalties to others to use patented photo processing software. Stock Android being open source, doesn’t. Either Google has found a way around the patents or bought a company that has it’s own photo processing software. There is no reason to suspect that if these enhancements were in KLP that the nexus 4,7,10 and maybe even the GNex can’t have them.
How good is “insanely good”? …good enough to snap the past? Or take pictures of dreams? Is it good enough to take pictures of the voices in my head???
So good it’ll drive you quite literally insane. But then why would anyone want a camera that will result in them being sectioned?
It’s like when Scientologist’s refuse to talk about Xanu (Xenu?) because they’ve been told we wouldn’t be able to handle that knowledge and we’d end up deranged.
So in summary, Google is making a phone based around Scientology.
The new, insanely great Nexus Cruise, it’s small, compact, and takes exceedingly average pictures.
They’ll be good enough to make this a reality.

Believe it when it see it, has a hard job to beat the 808 though.
