Since the launch of the FuelBand a year ago, many were wondering when Nike might deploy an Android companion app. Yesterday via its Support account on Twitter, the company quasi-officially said that it is not working on an Android app.
And today, Nike has confirmed with Gizmodo that an Android app is not in the works:
To deliver the best experience for all Nike+ FuelBand users, we are focusing on the FuelBand experience across iOS and nikeplus.com, where you can sync your activity, set new goals, and connect with friends. At this time, we are not working on an Android version of the mobile app.

Why wouldn’t they develop for the biggest and best mobile OS? Their loss.
Laziness. A more diverse range of devices using iOS means more effort required to develop for. Having said that however I can’t see how the extra effort involved could possibly outweigh the potential sales and profits to be made.
Way to go Nike for alienating millions of potential customers.
Oops, that should be ” A more diverse range of devices using Android*”
They are… Windows Phone 8 app on the way!
NIKE have lost a massive market share in the UK, I remember when I was young everybody had Nike air trainers, now many kids, and adults avoid them because they look like chavs I personally think Nike have lost their way.
Their SB line is actually incredibly popular.
obviously not down with the kids.
nike airs and friends have seen a revival with the whole faux-nostalgia thing with 90s pop culture.
oh, and my defacto sneakers are a pair of sb janoskis. definitely not chavvy in the slightest.

congratulations Nike, you have just managed to hobble yourselves by not supporting the most popular platform.
actually there is a very good reason for Nike snubbing Android – Tim Cook is one of the board members
Oh sh*t what am I going to do now? Oh wait, I don’t have Nike shoes or a FuelBand. Phew!
Why would Nike stick two fingers up to Nike Android owners, well…
I was told reliably by an insider at Apple that it was more to do with “influence” from key investors – ie those who have interests in both Nike and Apple not wanting an Android App for now… this makes more sense as it may make Nike consumers opt for an Iphone, still, pretty crappy for Android owners. However I think this is short sighted, given Android’s / Samsung’s meteoric rise, Nike will have to bring out an App sooner or later otherwise customers will give up waiting and seek out alternative solutions like Jawbone’s UP or Fitbits Flex.
