Nokia has announced that it is to share its Drive, Maps and Transit apps with other Windows Phone handsets. Under the Here moniker, users of non-Nokia handsets will finally be able to use the Finns’ excellent navigation software.
However, Nokia does point out that the “first and best” versions of the software will remain on its own smartphones, and it’s not clear when the roll-out will happen. But that’s not too much of an issue: if you’re using Windows Phone, any leftovers from Nokia’s pretty decent navigation software are worth grabbing. [Nokia via Engadget]

It doesn’t look a whole lot different from the Bing maps and Scout feature I already have on my HTC 8X. Is Here actually a better? I tried it on my iPad but I never saw the big deal.
Not really played around with Nokia Maps, since I don’t have a great need for it, but I use Nokia Drive quite a bit and so far it’s been working really well – might even replace my old TomTom as I’m sick of that trying to send me down one way streets the wrong way and roads which don’t exist.
Nokia is getting an increasingly wrong end of the stick here. First losing exclusivity on Windows, now giving away the family jewels…
What’s the bet this never makes it to WP7.8
