It should come as no surprise the Samsung Galaxy IV is coming. The only question was whether or not it would rear its head at the upcoming Mobile World Congress alongside competitors like the HTC one. Apparently not. According to The Verge, sources say it is definitely coming on March 14th at a Samsung event.

Samsung Confirms March 14th Event For Galaxy S IV
Apple Will Announce the Next iPad on March 7th
Report: Apple Will Announce the iPad 3 First Week of March
But the question is how soon after the events will they be available to buy?
Let’s hope it’s better looking than the S3
Personally I like the look of the S3. Simple and sleek.
It’s not bad looking. But it’s not ‘GASP, I MUST HAVE IT’ beautiful
Agree. The new blackberry looks nice, the HTC also, as do the Sony handsets, Samsung never were good at designing products.
I’m gonna wait for what Nokia do this year before I upgrade. If the rumours are true about an 808 on Windows Phone with updated specs, I’ll go for that. Be quite fun to try out a new OS, well new to me and you know Microsoft wont go ditching it any time soon and will get app support eventually.
I was gonna get the GS4 but the 808 I’m using not opened my eyes to other experiences other than IOS and Android. Also opened my eyes to not needed the latest and great specs, I realized when I look back to my GS2, it still played everything and ran smoothly, specs don’t need to be much better than that.
This is ridiculous. The S3 is barely out and they are announcing a new one rendering the S3 obsolete.
Stop ripping off your customers and build sell products that customers can use for a few years at least.
The trouble is, the sheeple will go always go out and buy the latest shiny toy because they have been brainwashed by years of marketing from companies like Samsung and Apple. I am sick of this twisted, bullshit, consumerist society we live in.
But it’s not as if Samsung deliberately stop older devices from working suddenly when a new model comes out. I’m happily using an S2 and won’t look until all of this year’s cycle of top models are released. If one of them takes my fancy then I’ll upgrade, otherwise, happy to sit tight.
Take cars – most manufacturers will slightly tweak the spec or appearance of their cars every every year when a significant revamp only every few years but not many people feel the urge to switch every year. I think it is unfair to single out Samsung or Apple in this respect.
I agree with you mrhale for I too am still using an S2. Although it would be nice to get the Jellybean update, the S2 still amazes me with its power and is more than good enough for what I use it for (and im quite a heavy user!).
I don’t feel pressured to upgrade (I think I can upgrade in april) but will wait to see what this year brings, if nothing takes my fancy I’ll wait another 12 months to see what comes out then. Now that WILL be a big step up from my S2 to an S5 or whatever else is out from whoever is developing good tech then!
New device every year is standard and it’s a good standard.
The S3 doesn’t become obsolete, it becomes the cheaper model that is still a good product.
Besides, you’re missing the point that Samsung, Apple and all others are continually improving on their products so why should they wait for you to be ready to upgrade? By releasing a new version each year, they can constantly improve their flagship product so that anyone new to the brand has a very new unit, and those loyal to the brand can obtain a newer better model than the one they own. For the latter people, not everyone upgrades at the same point so a continually evolving product release allows consumers to pick up the latest technology.
Like myself, two other posters have said that they’re happy with their 2011 Samsung phone and will wait to change this year, if at all. On the flipside, I know many people who will buy the newest version – but it’s their choice and they can sell their old one so that they are simply paying a smaller amount to upgrade. This method doesn’t just work on the newest model, it works on the next newest model and all below it – not everyone upgrades to the newest version as not everyone needs or can afford the newest.
We live in a fantastic age when innovation and choice is rife, allowing us to choose what we want to spend our money on based on our needs. Twisted, bullshit consumerism? Rubbish!
