Building Sony’s next-gen home console out of PC components looks like it’ll have a significant effect of the machine’s retail price, with reports claiming it’ll arrive with a tag of less than £300. Much better than PS3′s disastrous £425.
The price claims come via The Times, which says a mixture of “industry sources” and some “leaked internal documents” suggest Sony’s after a sub-£300 launch price for its home console. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal claims PS4 might somehow “allow users to compete against others using different hardware, such as smartphones and other portable devices,” suggesting a thrilling future world for multiplayer gaming where one player has the PS4, while the other uses a tablet. Or a phone. Presumably that’d just be for streamed titles that require less processing oomph.
The PS4 may well be announced tomorrow. Which will be quite an exciting event no matter which site of the hardware fence you sit on. [The Times via Techradar]

If it is £300 then that will only be for the base model, but still a great price.
Would also be great if all other regions get to pay the same or very similar. None of this Americans pay £70 less than us and Australians pay £70 more type of thing.
That’s great, the info wars have started and we’ll get little leaks, screen shots, demos and whatnot from Sony and MS throughout the year.
I’m still buying it irrespective if it was tagged with the price of the PS3. I cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings!
Too expensive, I’ll wait for the cheap redesign.
PS4 Mini?
Mini, slim, whatever the popular word for “smaller redesign” is at the time.
I will have one, but I will probably wait 6-8 months for teething problems and decent titles to be released then the price should have dropped by about £50 too
Sounds reasonable but if I can’t play a pre-owned game then HELL NO!
No Xbox 3 for you, then
