Building Sony's next-gen home console out of PC components looks like it'll have a significant effect of the machine's retail price, with reports claiming it'll arrive with a tag of less than £300. Much better than PS3's disastrous £425.
The price claims come via The Times, which says a mixture of "industry sources" and some "leaked internal documents" suggest Sony's after a sub-£300 launch price for its home console. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal claims PS4 might somehow "allow users to compete against others using different hardware, such as smartphones and other portable devices," suggesting a thrilling future world for multiplayer gaming where one player has the PS4, while the other uses a tablet. Or a phone. Presumably that'd just be for streamed titles that require less processing oomph.
