I’m not sure what took it so damn long, considering America has had a native Google-made YouTube app for the PS3 since August last year, but it’s finally here in the UK. Hit up the TV bit of your XMB to download it, and login via a separate sign-in page on another device. The app looks pretty slick, but will only play videos up to 720p, which is a bit lame. Better late than never, though. [PlayStation Blog]

Trolling YouTube On Your TV Just Got Easier
The YouTube App Is Finally Updated for iPad and iPhone 5
YouTube Puts the Final Meta Nail in the Harlem Shake's Coffin
I was going to say “The UK’s had this for months!” but I may have just downloaded it on my US user account and used it on my UK one. Works pretty well with the Youtube Leanback app.
Chucked it on last night.
I had trouble trying to get it to pair with my mobile. I was trying to do it through the browser instead of the YouTube app.
As soon as I did switch over to the app it paired straight away.
Well it’s all about content and licensing (Sam Gibbs should know this), it’s rarely technical reasons why some regions get something and others don’t.
Blame the content owners, not Sony or Google….
Good to see PS3 still getting loads of support, my Xbox360 just gathers dust these days, and every update just seems to ad more advert spaces for Microsoft to try and sell me crap I don’t want..
I’m not so sure this time around, as it’s not like YouTube actually has much in the way of region-locked content. Plus, you could get YouTube straight through the browser.
As you know, it’s almost always translations that delay things in Europe. Sony support 27 languages and apps have to support all 27 to be released. THAT’S what takes the time.
In the US, only English and Spanish are supported on the PS3.
we’ll see… accessing youtube until now was just a pain, and it didn’t work very well… the regular web version actually worked better, but then you can’t see shit…
Will test this tonight, even if it’s marginally better than what we had to put up with before, I’ll be happy.
Awesome, will have a look tonight
Ah the broken licensing system. That is why we had to wait so long for a system that users in the US already had. The sooner the entertainment industries learn that the Internet does not have borders, the better.
Languages. SCEE support 27. SCEA support 2.
Of course it’s always fashionable to pretend it’s Sony’s fault.
Cue Sony announcing the PS4 next week….
