This stupidly complex contraption, called the Pancake-omatic, might not be the easiest way to make a pancake — but it’s probably the most fun.
Dreamt up by a team of four design engineers, it took over 200 hours to construct and a further 100 to test. The result seems worth the effort, though: from the moment a hen lays an egg sat upon the throne, its journey to the frying pan is both seamless and entertaining.
Watch as the egg wobbles its way toward a hoist, to be cracked by a knife, and whisked up, before finally being deposited into the frying pan where it belongs. The machine will be on display in London’s Design Museum later this month. [YouTube via Daily Mail]

The Rube Goldberg Machine That Defies the Laws of Physics
This Extreme Athlete-Powered Rube Goldberg Machine Is Just Incredible
How the Extreme Athlete-Powered Rube Goldberg Machine Was Made
Why does Giz UK not call them Heath Robinson contraptions?
Who is this Rube Goldberg and why are they doing a Thomas Edison with Heath Robinson work?
Pretty sure that’s not a Robinson/Goldberg device, it doesn’t look like any of the parts are actually connected or controlling each other despite being made to look so. Not impressed at all.
i don’t think the chain reaction aspect is actually required, although it is often a feature. it’s more that it is totally over-engineered to complete such a simple task.
however, i agree with you – this one seems like a cop out.
so the flour and milk is already in the bowl? the batter seems too smooth for such a quick whisk. the whole thing just feels a bit ‘cheaty’.
