Tucked amidst the Mont Blanc Mountain Range, the picturesque Aosta Valley is among the most pristine places on Earth. But rather than trek all the way to the Italian Alps, you can gaze upon the region’s natural beauty through this 1:2193 scale stainless steel serving tray from Alessi.
Dubbed the Liconi by its designer, Pierfrancesco Cravel, this serving tray/centrepiece/bowl precisely matches the topography of Lake Linconi and the face of Gran Paradiso. The 18/10 steel used in its production was in fact mined from the Aosta region and the piece measures 35.2 x 23.5 x 8.8 cm in total. The centrepiece retails for £113 on Alessi’s site.

as with all Alessi, Pretty………Useless
You’re too harsh. I would totally use this.
aye Kat you would use it and your fruit would roll of the sides! i loved Alessi when i was at college, did a project on him and everything until i realised that its mostly style over function, its ok as art or sculpture but not as an actual usable item (imo)
I’ve got an Alessi fruit bowl which is *slightly* more useable than the one pictured here, and even though it doesn’t fit nearly as many pieces of fruit as other bowls would, I still use it — because I value art, especially affordable art, and hate anything ugly or where the company has put function over style — it’s a fine line to cross, I know!
I appreciate what you’re saying about function over style. No one likes anything ugly, but similarly when people put style over function, and the function suffers because of it, I can’t stand that either.
agreed, you can still have great functionality as well as awesome artistic design, dont get me wrong, there are a few Alessi things that work in both aspects but many dont
it really annoys me when a kettle or tea pot looks nice but cant pour water without spilling it, or a kitchen utensil thats pretty but cant be cleaned properly due to the design
For me, the holy grail is something that does it’s job perfectly and is beautiful because of it.
Chuck a Wankel engine on the wall rotating slowly, showing off everything it’s doing and as far as I’m concerned you’ve got yourself some art.
agreed
*I’ve got Alessi cutlery and it is good, albeit very weighty.
As for the Aosta Valley, I’ve skiied there and it was sh*t. Try the Inn or the Zillertal. They look much more impressive and are not rubbish.
If that piece of trash is a bowl, then I’m a vulcan.
but is it dishwasher proof?
