One of the best things to do if you’re watching your weight is to just be careful of portion sizes. Eating a whole bag of Doritos? Not good for you. Eating a small handful? Less worse! Something even better to do is to eat more low calorie foods and less calorie dense items. Less bang for your buck can actually be good! Here’s what 200 calories looks like in food.
The project, which was done by Wise Geek, shows 200 calories of food because it was something “tangible”. 100 calories would have been too little for dense items and 500 calories would’ve been comically ginormous for low calorie foods. To be fair, there are other things that go into food other than calories, but for the purpose of the exercise, it’s pretty eye-opening to see half a Snickers bar equal to three eggs and so forth.
For perspective, the plate is 10.25-inches in diameter and the bowl is 6.25-inches in diameter

That’s a whole lot of broccoli.

Who eats half a cheeseburger

I gotta eat more carrots

I never liked Snickers anyway.

How many apples is this?
Dammit, I love bagels.

What 2,000 Calories of Food Actually Looks Like
Are There More Calories in Food Than What's Listed in the Nutrition Facts? (Yes)
Convenience Food Looks Kinda Gross In Cross-Section
Always thought apples were actually quite high because of their energy content. Seems not! But the amount of broccoli? Ha ha!
That is usually the case, the biggest factor is probably the sweetness of the apple itself. That looks like a braeburn ie. not sweet so you can have more. Im guessing a granny smith is like one bite
‘Who eats half a cheeseburger’
Half a man.
Let’s see now… A plate of nice tasting food… Or a plate of green…
Mmmm… Curvy like Nigella Lawson or miserable and skrany like vegan Gillian McKeith?
Pass me the burger!!!
For a second I thought those carrots were Cheesy Wotsits, damn it!!!
Thought I was on 9gag 5 days ago there.
I don’t get why dough has so many cals, it’s basically flour and water. When I’m making a Pizza, 300g of flour, 170ml water, tsp salt, tbsp of oil and yeast. Like all the energy comes from the flour basically, don’t get how it can have so much.
I bet eating a deep pan is better than thin because the dough fills you up more, there is always less topping and because you’re full quicker, you eat less and that means less cheese and other crap.
Scaramoosh, meet carbohydrates.
sounds like they’re already well acquainted
Flour comes from wheat. Wheat is a complex carbohydrate. Guess what happens when you eat a complex carbohydrate? It breaks down into sugar. Sugar is extremely calorie dense. Contrary to what the wheat industry has paid millions to have you believe, bread is not a healthy food. A bagel will spike your blood sugar and put strain on your pancreas more than a can of Coke. A bowl of sugar-free cornflakes is a worse breakfast than a snickers bar. Corn is another complex carb and it breaks down into sugar too. This process happens very quickly once you’ve eaten it and releases a large amount of sugar into your blood stream. The pancreas then has to release a large amount of insulin to combat this high sugar blood state(which is fatal if not for the pancreas doing its job) and this leads to diabetes as well as a whole range of damage to the body.
Everyone eats Carbs, can’t blame it alone on diabetes.
That’s not at all what I said. Did you actually read my post? Maybe try reading it again, but more carefully.
Yeh but you make it seem like some danger food when the fact is the poorer folk fall back on carbs because they’re cheap and they live healthy lives. I don’t think you have to worry unless it’s genetic or you eat so poorly or you’re obese.
I eat more bread, rice, potatoes and anything flour related more than any one I know and yet I’m thin. However scientists try to tell you carbs make you fat…
I just don’t believe it, I think over eating and doing no exercise makes you fat.
I’m doing the Fast Diet at the moment, 3 days a week i have 600 cals for the day and the other 4 I eat normally. On the fast days I have 2 boiled eggs or an apple & banana for brekkers, low cal soup for lunch and Vegetables for dinner, usually between 200-250 cals worth, the lowest cal veg are carrots and to get 200 cals takes around 900 grams.
I was shocked by how much veg you can get for your calories! Its made it much easier to do the diet than i thought it would be.
Yes this is the beauty of fruits and vegetables. You can eat as much as you want, as often as you want, and absolutely stuff your face. You won’t put on weight. You will most likely lose weight. And the health benefits are tremendous.
I just eat whatever I want, I made a toad in the hole today, 8 sausages, ate it all myself, ate an entire 15 inch pizza I made myself and I’ve eaten choclate, had lots of milk, had a curry at lunch etc. I love eating and I find it fun to cook my own food, I don’t buy ready meals or whatever, don’t even buy sauce, make that myself and even my own stock.
Yet I must eat like 3000+ cals a day and I’m not fat lol.
I only do the Shaun T Insanity thing once a day and walk the dog for 2 hours a day. I’m not on some special work out…
That’s quite a lot of exercise so you’re doing well. Fair play to you. But when you get older you might look back and wish you werne’t eating so much toxic food like sausages, gluten, pizza etc. By then it’s too late. Food is the number one cause of disease and illness. It just takes a long time for it to build up and wreck havoc on the body, which is why we all get fubared in our 50s and 60s with all sorts of illnesses. Good luck and health to all.
I’m doing the fast thing too, although I pretty much like no veg. I do it every other day so 3 or 4 times a week, I usually have bran flakes and a sandwich on my fast day, although sometimes I have soup instead. I’m pretty much almost there just need a little toning, although I’ll probably still need to continue to fast 1 or 2 days a week afterwards since I’m losing weight slower now
. Wasn’t as hard as I thought it’d be.
I started at 24st and have gotten to 21.5st since starting at the beginning of Jan, I can see it’s slowing down already so i’m throwing in a 1K swim on my fast days too to try and keep the progress up, if i can lose 2 or 3 lbs a week i’ll be happy.
For point of reference, i’m 33 & 6’6″ and all the charts say i should be around 15-16st but i’ll be happy with 18 so i’m nearly half way.
I started at just less than 14st late last year sometime and am now 11st but have less strength than others so want it down a little further. I usually go on 40-45 mins walks everyday maybe with a little jogging everyday. It’s a little annoying to not be losing weight sometimes but being pretty much there it’s alright, I could be more active too. I’ve also been eating an extra treat on my feast day this year than last year which would be a reason for it to slow down, although my calorie intake should still be fine for that. I’m 22 for another month and about 5’11″.
