When Redditor jayhawk503 bought his new iPod, he got more than he bargained for. He claims he didn’t want any damn engraving. We’re not sure how true that is, but it’s funny nonetheless. [Reddit via Geekosystem]

Just proves no one checks, or Apple have a sense of humour.
Well we’ve already proved they don’t have one with iOS 6.1.3.
Ain’t that the god damn truth.
Oh cruel irony.
Not sure I buy this, as a redditor you have to assume the person is at least semi computer literate. I just had a look on the Apple website and it seemed pretty clear to me how to add/ remove engraving. I think this is more likely to be a cheap prank to gain karma.
That said there are plenty of worse things to have engraved on an iPod.
Just seen ‘We’re not sure how true that is,’…I’ll be quiet.
Definitely for the karma.
“Help! Trapped in an iPod Factory!”
Call me paranoid but I think there are some companies who offer engraving and other customised services (sometimes for free) so that they can be exempt from the distance selling regulation in UK. Under DSR, the consumer is able to return an item within 7 working days. For a full refund of the item and the outbound postage cost (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange#web). However, personalised items such as engraving are exempt from this. May be not all, but I think some companies offer engraving so they can be exempt from the DSR and not have to worry about it.
I think one theory may be that he clicked on the box where you pick what you want to have engraved and accidentally deleted a letter and with him replaced it, it took the whole sentence as what he wanted engraved? Or perhaps the sentence vanished from the box and he rewrote it thinking it wouldn’t get engraved.
Could conceivably be a JavaScript error, true.
But either way, they should have double checked with the customer, it would be pretty weird for someone to want that engraved.
About as weird as this?

Hey! It’s not nice to say that that is weird, pen drives mean a lot to people. Well, some people.
Question : Does Gizmodo posts articles they find interesting from Reddit, or vice versa ?
As a Redditor, they do it all the time.
Post articles from Reddit that is.
Yeah, I realised that …
Not everyone reads Reddit / has the time to read Reddit. We always link to them, so like with all of our other posts, we’re very transparent about where we find them.
THanks for clearing that up.
No problemo.
