Yes, the Pi-machine keeps on getting better and better. Not only is there a stable release of XBMC waiting for you, your Raspberry Pi can also now play Minecraft, and for absolutely nothing too.
Minecraft: Pi Edition is a separate release specifically for the Pi, and you can download it right here. Is there anything the humble Pi can’t do? I’d recommend getting yourself one of the beefed up original boards if you’re after a dedicated minecrafting machine, thanks to the doubled RAM.
The instructions for getting it up and running look pretty simple, if you’re at all familiar with Linux and your Pi. So jump on over to the Pi Edition blog and get Pi-crafting right now. [Minecraft: Pi Edition, Mojang]

Finally a use for my Raspberry pi.
can anyone confirm that airplay on raspbmc works out of the box?
Yes. I can. Although I can’t really. I installed Openelec, which is an alternative to Raspbmc and airplay works on it. I have some wifi issues just now, so it’s not great with HD video.
“Out of the box” – If you mean without having to do anything other than switch it on in the XBMC/GUI settings after you boot it up first time, yes it totally does. (That was on the version just before the first official release, released today)
But like Magicguppy above, I’d recommend Openelec for speediness of navigation. Not got fully involved to find out what features it cant do compared to Raspbmc. But Openelec just feels much more responsive navigating menus and the like.
alright cheers. i recently got xbian working quite nicely but airplay doesn’t want to say hello. the real reason i wanted airplay is to push spotify to my hifi. instead, i might see how i get on with something like spotimc.
…tempted to switch for airplay though!
I’m a Pi/xbmc noob still, but I’d go OpenElec over Raspbmc for the responsiveness unless you know that there’s a function OpenElec doesn’t do. Installed so shady film/TV add-ons last night on OpenElec and they work fine also.
Is there any reason why you wouldn’t switch from Xbian? (Just so I know if theres a reason I should switch TO Xbian!)
Airplay is quick and smooth for Pics and music, and slight initial buffering from video.
noob here too
there is no real reason really, in fact raspbmc looks to have an easier installer. i just happened to choose xbian out of a hat.
the main things i took a while to set up where actually just specific to xbmc, e.g. getting the movie scrapper going, adding my NAS sources. so now i know how to sort those things it should be an easy swap over to either raspbmc or openelec.
reminds me, thought it would be useful to create a backup of my pi SD card. i figured it’s only 8GB, and if something went funny it’d be easy to revert. started looking at this: http://elinux.org/RPi_Beginners#Backup_your_SD_card
any suggestions on backup?
Na, none at all as yet. Seems like a prudent thing to do though because apart from the initial installation with sorting network options etc, that initial Library scan takes ages. And from adding some add-ons last night, each of those takes a good few minutes. Might do a trial run using that linked software tonight.
cool, good luck with that.
